Effect of seed circulation systems on the spread and diversity of Xanthomonas phaseoli pv. manihotis infecting cassava crops of the Colombian Caribbean

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, Volume 8, Issue 1, Page 353-364, January 2026.
Cassava is a lifeline for millions of people across the tropics, but its productivity is at risk from a disease called Cassava Bacterial Blight (CBB). In this study, we explore how the everyday practices of farmers exchanging cassava cuttings—a long‐standing tradition—can shape how the disease spreads and evolves in the Colombian Caribbean.

RNA silencing of South African cassava mosaic virus in transgenic cassava expressing AC1/AC4 hp- RNA induces tolerance

open access: yesBiotechnology Reports, 2019
Cassava mosaic disease (CMD), caused by geminiviruses, is a major hurdle to cassava production. Due to the heterozygous nature of cassava, breeding for virus resistance is difficult, but cassava has been shown to be a good candidate for genetic ...

Genome segment ratios change during whitefly transmission of two bipartite cassava mosaic begomoviruses

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Cassava mosaic disease is caused by a complex of whitefly-transmitted begomoviruses, which often occur in co-infections. These viruses have bipartite genomes consisting of DNA-A and DNA-B that are encapsidated into separate virions.

Recent Advances in Lemongrass Essential Oil: Food Safety, Preservation, and Bioactivity in Food Systems

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Lemongrass essential oil (LGEO) has gained recognition as a natural preservative in food systems due to its distinctive phytochemical composition and multifunctional bioactivities. Dominated by citral and complemented by terpenes and phenolic compounds, LGEO demonstrates potent antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antibiofilm, and antioxidant

The cassava mosaic geminiviruses occurring in Uganda following the 1990s epidemic of severe cassava mosaic disease

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, 2004
SummaryThe cassava mosaic geminiviruses (CMGs) isolated from cassava plants expressing mild and severe symptoms of cassava mosaic disease (CMD) in 2002 in Uganda were investigated using the polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR‐RFLP) molecular techniques and DNA sequencing.

Views of Health Professionals on the Contribution of Climate Change to the Transmission of Lassa Fever in Nigeria and the Implications for Risk Communication

open access: yesAdvances in Public Health, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Lassa fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic illness caused by the Lassa virus and is mainly spread through direct and indirect human–rodent interaction. In Nigeria, Lassa fever outbreaks are becoming more frequent, and studies suggest that changes in climatic and ecological conditions will exacerbate these trends. It is crucial that health professionals

Improving Taro (Colocasia esculenta [L.] Schott.) Genotypes for Resistance to Taro Leaf Blight Disease in Ghana

open access: yesAdvances in Agriculture, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This study explored the variation in taro leaf blight disease (TLBD) in Colocasia esculenta by examining five parent genotypes and their corresponding 20 single‐cross hybrids. A full diallel crossing design was employed and assessed under both naturally occurring field infections and controlled artificial inoculations.

Response of Local Cassava Varieties in Uganda to Cassava Mosaic Virus Disease

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Experimental Agriculture, 2012
Cassava mosaic disease (CMD) resistant varieties have been used to manage CMD in Uganda. In spite the availability of a number of CMD resistant cultivars, several local landraces are continually grown in Uganda because they possess certain desirable traits, which may not have been fully met by the resistant varieties.

Gradual Emergence of East African cassava mosaic Cameroon virus in Cassava Farms in Côte d’Ivoire

open access: yesAgronomy
Cassava mosaic disease (CMD) and cassava brown streak disease (CBSD) are endemic threats to cassava production, causing significant yield losses. They are caused respectively by begomoviruses and ipomoviruses that are transmitted by whiteflies and ...

Assessment of genetically modified soybean GMB151 × DAS‐44406‐6 (application GMFF‐2024‐21774, EFSA‐Q‐2024‐00330)

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Genetically modified soybean GMB151 × DAS‐44406‐6 was developed by crossing to combine two single events: GMB151 and DAS‐44406‐6. The two‐event stack soybean expresses the Cry14Ab‐1, HPPD‐4, PAT, AAD‐12 and 2mEPSPS proteins to confer herbicide tolerance and resistance to plant parasitic nematodes.
