Bacterial contents of the anal and castor glands of beaver (Castor canadensis)

Journal of Chemical Ecology, 1978
Bacterial contents of both the anal gland and castor gland of the beaver (Castor canadensis) were determined. Using our culture methods, no bacteria were isolated from the castor glands, but the anal gland contained high numbers of the aerobeEscherichia coli and the anaerobeBacteroides fragilis.

Immobilization of American Beaver (Castor canadensis) with Nalbuphine, Medetomidine, and Azaperone

Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 2019
Thirty-two American beavers (Castor canadensis) were immobilized with a mixture of nalbuphine, medetomidine, and azaperone (NalMedA) for tail transmitter placement and health assessments prior to translocation. Inductions and reversals were very smooth, but regardless of the dose administered, which ranged from 0.02 to 0.06 mL/kg, many beavers reacted ...

SYSTEMIC TOXOPLASMOSIS IN A FIVE-MONTH-OLD BEAVER, (CASTOR CANADENSIS) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Zoo and Wildlife Medicine, 2004
A 5-mo-old orphan beaver, Castor canadensis, died of severe systemic toxoplasmosis during rehabilitation. Histologic lesions included lymphohistiocytic encephalitis, myocarditis, and interstitial pneumonia with multinucleated cells.

Hypsodontia in Castor canadensis: an anatomical and histological study

Morphologie, 2006
The aim of this original study is to describe the dental morphology and anatomy of Castor canadensis and to compare results with existing data in the literature relating to this mammal. This will give us a better knowledge of its very distinctive dental system, representative of rodent typology. The authors used an osteological sample that is rarely ...

THE CHROMOSOMES OF THE CANADIAN BEAVER CASTOR CANADENSIS

Canadian Journal of Genetics and Cytology, 1979
A chromosome analysis of 24 Canadian beavers, Castor canadensis Kuhl (12 males and 12 females), captured in Laurentides Park, Québec, has been performed from preparations of blood lymphocyte and skin cultures. The chromosome number was found to be 2n = 40.

Castor canadensis (Beaver)

1968
These karyotypes are based on fibrous tissue and kidney cultures of three male and two female beavers trapped in central Vermont, USA. All gave similar results. The karyotypes shown are from fibrous tissue cultures.

Differentiation ofCastor fiber andCastor Canadensis by noninvasive molecular methods

Zoo Biology, 2000
The aim of the study was to develop a simple and reliable method for differentiation of the two phenotypic, very similar Eurasian and North American beavers. Hair bulbs were plucked as tissue samples from the fur of living animals. The mitochondrial cytochrome b locus was amplified by polymerase chain reaction and sequenced.

CELLULOSE DIGESTION IN THE BEAVER (CASTOR CANADENSIS)

Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1960
The digestion of cellulose by the beaver (Castor canadensis) has been studied. Indigestible markers added to the feed and artificial caeca were used as techniques in the determination of cellulose digestion. The ability of the experimental animals to digest cellulose ranged from 32 to 33%.

Health Screening of American Beavers (Castor canadensis) in Utah, USA

Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 2022
American beavers (Castor canadensis), trapped between 2017 and 2020 for the purpose of translocation, underwent hematologic, serologic, and fecal examinations. Eight of 73 beavers were seropositive for Leptospira spp. and 1/49 seropositive for Toxoplasma gondii.
