Beaver dam analogues increase amphibian breeding occupancy and bat activity
Abstract Introduction Beavers are ecosystem engineers that can create ponds, increase stream complexity, and enhance biodiversity. To mimic these and other effects, restoration practitioners increasingly install beaver dam analogues (BDAs) in degraded streams.

Habitat age influences metacommunity assembly and species richness in successional pond ecosystems

Proximate Climate Drivers of Beaver Pond Occupancy and Range Expansion in Arctic Alaska
To understand why beavers are colonizing the Arctic, we evaluated which climate drivers underpin beaver pond dynamics. Warm Junes, mild winters, green summers, and wet springs facilitate pond establishment. Rapid improvement in these conditions across recent decades provides mechanistic support that climate change is driving beaver colonization of the ...

Thyroid Follicular Carcinoma with Pulmonary Metastases in a Beaver (Castor canadensis) [PDF]
An 11-yr-old female beaver (Castor canadensis) died after a 3 1/2 mo course of intermittent diarrhea, lethargy and anorexia. A postmortem examination revealed both a necrotizing ulcerative colitis and bilaterally enlarged thyroid glands. Histologically, the necrotizing colitis was similar to that caused by canine or feline parvovirus.
