Beavers, Castor canadensis, Feeding on Salmon Carcasses: Opportunistic Use of a Seasonally Superabundant Food Source [PDF]
We report observations of Beavers (Castor canadensis) foraging and feeding on discarded Chinook Salmon (Oncorhynchus tshawytscha) carcasses within the confines of the Susitna River drainage in southcentral Alaska on three separate occasions between 1999 ...

Movement characteristics of American beavers (Castor canadensis)
Physiological states and foraging behaviors may shape movement patterns of animals. Optimal foraging theory and what we term the deliberate movement hypothesis predict that, to reduce predation risk, central place foragers should move faster with smaller turning angles the further they are from their central place.

Eurasian beavers significantly enhance bird diversity and abundance by creating wetland habitats, with 23% higher bird numbers and more unique species at beaver ponds compared to unaffected streams. The size of water surfaces was the key factor influencing species richness, particularly benefiting birds that rely on aquatic environments.

ABSTRACT Beaver modify hydrological regimes and have the ability to both increase water storage and alter stream temperatures. For these reasons, beaver translocation and the construction of human engineered beaver‐dam analogues (BDAs) have become popular tools for climate‐change adaptation.

This study provides novel insights into the catchment‐scale co‐distribution of beavers and migratory fish, and there was no evidence of negative effects on the catchment‐scale distribution of migratory fish species. More generally, this study highlights how catchment‐wide eDNA monitoring can be applied by environmental managers to aid decision‐making ...

Persistent paramesonephric ducts (masculine uterus) in the male North American beaver (Castor canadensis) [PDF]
Remnants of the paramesonephric (Müllerian) ducts can be found in the male as a uterus-like structure. Historically, these have been known as a masculine uterus. We examined the reproductive tracts of 24 male North American beaver, Castor canadensis Kuhl,
