Acetylcholinesterase-containing neurons in cat neostriatum: A morphological and quantitative analysis

Neuroscience Letters, 1980
When examined in brain sections prepared according to the Butcher's pharmaco-histochemical method, the large acetylcholinesterase (AChE)-containing cells in cat putamen appear morphologically different, more numerous per mm2, and significantly larger than those in caudate nucleus.

Substance P-containing projections in the dorsal columns of rats and cats

Neuroscience, 1990
Light and electron microscopic immunocytochemical methods were used to study the distribution and the morphology of substance P-positive fibers and axon terminals in the dorsal column nuclei of rats and cats, and to determine whether they are part of an ascending input to these nuclei. In rats, substance P-positive fibers and axon terminals are present

Regeneration of norepinephrine-containing fibers in occipital cortex of adult cats

Brain Research Bulletin, 1994
Regeneration of norepinephrine (NE)-containing nerve fibers in occipital cortex of adult cats was studied using morphological and biochemical methods. Initially, degeneration of cortical NE fibers was induced by direct infusion of 6-hydroxydopamine (6-OHDA) for a week.

Visual afferents to norepinephrine-containing neurons in cat locus coeruleus

Experimental Brain Research, 1982
A total of 208 single neurons were extracellularly recorded in the locus coeruleus (LC) of 11 cats. In later histofluorescence studies, greenish fluorescent LC neurons, from which we believed to have recorded well-isolated action potentials, were always found in or close to the center of red fluorescent halo due to an injected dye which marked the ...

Human cancer in households containing cats with malignant lymphoma

International Journal of Cancer, 1972
AbstractSince feline malignant lymphoma is viral in nature, a retrospective case‐control study was done to assess if there was any additional risk of cancer for human members in households with cats histologically diagnosed as having that disease. The 221 households identified as having owned cats that developed the disease were matched with control ...

Nitric oxide synthase-containing nerve elements in the pylorus of the cat

Neuroscience Letters, 1996
Combined nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate-diaphorase (NADPH-d) histochemistry, nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) immunocytochemistry were used to study the distribution of NOS- and VIP-containing nerve elements in the feline pylorus. A large number of stained multipolar neurons was found in the myenteric

Glutamate containing neurons in the cat superior colliculus revealed by immunocytochemistry

Visual Neuroscience, 1997
AbstractGlutamate is the probable neurotransmitter of both retinal and cortical afferents to the cat superior colliculus (SC). The present study shows that glutamate is also contained in many postsynaptic neurons in SC. The distribution, morphology, and ultrastructure of neurons in SC were examined using glutamate antibody immunocytochemistry.

Enrichment of glutamate in zinc-containing terminals of the cat visual cortex

NeuroReport, 1992
The presence of glutamate and GABA was examined in zinc-containing terminals of the cat visual cortex using a post-embedding immunogold method. The surface density of immunogold-labelling was also evaluated in morphologically defined ultrastructural elements, namely terminals having round synaptic vesicles and making asymmetrical synapses (RA boutons),

Nitric oxide synthase-containing, peptide-containing, and acetylcholinesterase-positive nerves in the cat lower oesophagus

The Histochemical Journal, 1994
The innervation of the cat lower oesophagus, including the lower oesophageal sphincter, was studied by enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy. In the lower oesophageal sphincter, and at a level 2 cm above it, no apparent differences were seen in the nerve distribution pattern.

Cat allergen content of commercial house dust extracts: Comparison with dust extracts from cat-containing environment

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 1987
Eighteen lots of house dust extract from nine commercial sources (obtained as weight per volume or protein nitrogen unit per cubic centimeter) were analyzed for cat allergen content by direct quantitative immunoelectrophoresis after concentration. Cat allergen 1 was measurable (greater than 0.3 units) in 11 extracts with a mean (range) of 5.8 (1.3 to ...
