Prolactin and its receptor as therapeutic targets in glioblastoma multiforme [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Although prolactin (PRL) and its receptor (PRLR) have been detected in glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), their role in its pathogenesis remains unclear. Our aim was to explore their contribution in GBM pathogenesis.

Systemic Cat Scratch Disease

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association, 2006
Systemic cat scratch disease (CSD) is often associated with prolonged fever and microabscesses in the liver and/or spleen. We report a case of systemic CSD with hepatic, splenic and renal involvement in an aboriginal child in Taiwan. A previously healthy 9-year-old girl had an intermittent fever for about 17 days, and complained of abdominal pain ...

A Novel Sprayable Fibrinogen/Glycosaminoglycans/Collagen‐Based Bioink for Skin Wound Healing Applied by a Handheld Dual‐Head Airbrush

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐head airbrush‐based spraying device, combined with a fibrinogen bioink enriched with glycosaminoglycans and collagen, enables the delivery of biomaterials and cells to promote wound healing. This system demonstrates effective skin regeneration in vitro and in vivo, with comparable results to autografts.

Bone‐Derived dECM Hydrogels Support Tunable Microenvironments for In Vitro Osteogenic Differentiation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A tunable methacrylated decellularized bone matrix hydrogel (dECM‐MA) is developed to support 3D culture of human osteoblasts. The hydrogel preserves bone‐specific ECM cues and allows precise control over mechanical properties. This system provides a customizable platform for studying osteogenic differentiation and modeling bone tissue environments for

Public Health Threat of New, Reemerging, and Neglected Zoonoses in the Industrialized World [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Microbiologic infections acquired from animals, known as zoonoses, pose a risk to public health. An estimated 60% of emerging human pathogens are zoonotic. Of these pathogens, >71% have wildlife origins.

Bartonella henselae DNA in Seronegative Patients with Cat-Scratch Disease

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2018
We used real-time PCR to detect Bartonella henselae DNA in 7.9% (5/63) of blood specimens from seronegative patients in Japan suspected of having cat-scratch disease.

A Human Neural Tube Model Using 4D Self‐Folding Smart Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) exhibit features comparable to the inner cell mass of the human embryo. iPSCs are applied to a novel self‐folding 4D‐Neural Tube (4D‐NT) structure that mimics the neurulation process. This 4D‐NT model recapitulates early events of human neural development and represents a platform to explore neurodevelopmental ...

Targeting the mRNA-binding protein HuR impairs malignant characteristics of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Post-transcriptional regulation is a powerful mediator of gene expression, and can rapidly alter the expression of numerous transcripts involved in tumorigenesis.
