Eulerian-Catalan Numbers [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2011
We show that the Eulerian-Catalan numbers enumerate Dyck permutations. We provide two proofs for this fact, the first using the geometry of alcoved polytopes and the second a direct combinatorial proof via an Eulerian-Catalan analogue of the Chung-Feller theorem.

Chromatic statistics for Catalan and Fuß-Catalan numbers

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2011
We refine Catalan numbers and Fuß-Catalan numbers by introducing colour statistics for triangulations of polygons and $d$-dimensional generalisations there-of which we call Fuß-Catalan complexes. Our refinements consist in showing that the number of triangulations, respectively Fuß-Catalan complexes, with a given colour distribution of its vertices is ...

Catalanism and Antifascism between Catalonia and Radical Overseas Separatism during the Spanish Civil War: the Role of the Butlletí Especial per als Catalans Absents de la Pàtria, 1937-1939

open access: yesHistoria contemporánea, 2020
During the first half of the 20th century, the connections of inland Catalanism with the 'Catalans of America', the sector of emigrants and exiles that followed its precepts on American soil, experienced great growth.

A Catalan triangle

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics, 1976
AbstractWe develop an arithmetic triangle similar to Pascal's triangle. The entries are interpreted in terms of numbers of pairs of nonintersecting paths in the first quadrant. The main applications are results about the Catalan numbers and various random walk problems.

The Jocs Florals in Contemporary Catalan Literature [PDF]

open access: yesCatalan Historical Review, 2013
In 1859, the very same stimulus that drove the ambition to create Barcelona’s Eixample (“enlargement”) design by urban planner Cerdà served to “restore” the Jocs Florals in Barcelona, a symbolic complement which quite calculatedly evoked powerful ...

Catalan

open access: yes, 2022
Catalan is a “medium-sized” Romance language spoken by over 10 million speakers, spread over four nation states: Northeastern Spain, Andorra, Southern France, and the city of L’Alguer (Alghero) in Sardinia, Italy. Catalan is divided into two primary dialectal divisions, each with further subvarieties: Western Catalan (Western Catalonia, Eastern Aragon,
