The Phoenix Deep Survey: The 1.4 GHz microJansky catalogue

open access: yes, 2002
The initial Phoenix Deep Survey (PDS) observations with the Australia Telescope Compact Array have been supplemented by additional 1.4 GHz observations over the past few years. Here we present details of the construction of a new mosaic image covering an

Single‐Cell RNA Sequencing of Human Lung Tissues Reveals Metallothionein‐Positive T Cells as a Novel Potential Marker of Susceptibility to Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Using single‐cell RNA sequencing of lung samples and flow cytometry of peripheral blood, we identified a novel T cell subset with high metallothionein (MT) expression. These MT‐high T cells suppress CD8+ T cell cytotoxicity and are progressively depleted from healthy controls to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients, positioning them as

Stochastic Nanoscale Biophysical Cues as a Basis for the Induction of Glioblastoma‐Like Transcriptional Programs in Astrocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stochastic nanoscale physical cues induce glioblastoma (GBM)‐associated transcriptional traits in naïve astrocytes leading to spontaneous formation of spheroids. Cells within spheroids express activated‐MMP2 and a differential gene expression pattern involving P53 and NOTCH3, providing evidence for a role for changes in brain topography, as observed in

Comparative analysis of some search engines

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Science, 2010
We compared the information retrieval performances of some popular search engines (namely, Google, Yahoo, AlltheWeb, Gigablast, Zworks and AltaVista and Bing/MSN) in response to a list of ten queries, varying in complexity.

Clumping towards a UK National catalogue? [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
This article presents a clumps-oriented perspective on the idea of a UK national catalogue for HE, arguing that a distributed approach based on Z39.50 has a number of attractive features when compared with the alternative physical union catalogue model ...

Calcium Shock Enables Efficient and Programmable Particle Delivery for Genome Editing Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Classical transfection and transduction are inefficient, particularly with confluent cells and organoids, and lack cell type‐specific programmability. This study presents calcium shock (CaSh), a method that dramatically improves particle delivery into single cells, colonies, and organoids.

Divergent Responses of Bacterial Communities to Permafrost Degradation and Their Associations With Carbon Across Vertical Profiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bacterial α‐diversity decreases, but stochasticity and community stability increase across the 15 m‐depth vertical profiles and along the degraded gradient within the active layer. The abundance and interaction of core taxa mainly control community stability in the active and permafrost layers, respectively.

“Pourquoi ces choses et non pas d’autres?”

open access: yesCompendium
Taking a short quotation from Le Mariage de Figaro by Beaumarchais as motto, this article reflects on important issues of comparative literature, namely, questions of inclusion and exclusion in the delimitation of the discipline’s boundaries.

Redefining Dendritic Cell Vaccines: Synergistically Co‐priming DC and B Cells With Nanoparticles Loading Whole Cell Antigens Maximizes the Efficacy of DC Vaccines

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dendritic cells (DC) vaccine is an important type of vaccines. However, the limited efficacy of DC vaccines hinders their widely application. This study redefines DC vaccines and provides a new DC‐BC vaccine that have much better therapeutic efficacy.
