Insights into the mechanism of substrate specificity in a novel PL15_3 subfamily oligo-alginate lyase VBAly15A

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology
Alginate is a major component of brown algae cell walls and can be degraded via β-elimination by alginate lyases. These enzymes are classified into polysaccharide lyases and oligo-alginate lyases (Oals), with Oals mainly represented by the PL15 and PL17 ...

Structural insights into the catalytic and inhibitory mechanisms of the flavin transferase FmnB in Listeria monocytogenes

open access: yesMedComm, 2022
Listeria monocytogenes, a food‐borne Gram‐positive pathogen, often causes diseases such as gastroenteritis, bacterial sepsis, and meningitis. Newly discovered extracellular electron transfer (EET) from L.

Carbon Monoxide Oxidation Promoted by Surface Polarization Charges in a CuO/Ag Hybrid Catalyst. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Composite structures have been widely utilized to improve material performance. Here we report a semiconductor-metal hybrid structure (CuO/Ag) for CO oxidation that possesses very promising activity. Our first-principles calculations demonstrate that the

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Using a dual plasma process to produce cobalt--polypyrrole catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction in fuel cells -- part I: characterisation of the catalytic activity and surface structure

open access: yes, 2012
A new dual plasma coating process to produce platinum-free catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction in a fuel cell is introduced. The catalysts thus produced were analysed with various methods.

Electrical properties and reactivity under air–CO flows of composite systems based on ceria coated carbon nanotubes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Nanocomposite systems of ceria nanoparticles and Double Walled Carbon Nanotubes (DWNTs) coated with nanoceria (nCeO2) were elaborated using a classical sol gel method. Three samples noted as [nCeO2 + xDWNTs] with variable weight fractions x = 0, 5 and 15

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

The Role of DNMT Methyltransferases and TET Dioxygenases in the Maintenance of the DNA Methylation Level

open access: yesBiomolecules
This review deals with the functional characteristics and biological roles of enzymes participating in DNA methylation and demethylation as key factors in epigenetic regulation of gene expression. The set of enzymes that carry out such processes in human

Numerical Study of Heterogeneous Reactions in an SOFC Anode with Oxygen Addition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Previous experimental studies have shown that addition of small amounts of oxygen to a hydrocarbon fuel stream can control coking in the anode, while relatively large amounts of oxygen are present in the fuel stream in single-chamber solid oxide fuel ...
