Metformin Restores Mitochondrial Function and Neurogenesis in POLG Patient‐Derived Brain Organoids

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Patient‐derived POLG‐mutant cortical organoids reveal neuronal subtype‐specific mitochondrial and synaptic defects, with dopaminergic neurons most affected. Metformin treatment restores neuronal identity, mitochondrial function, and excitability, increased mtDNA maintenance, and reprogrammed metabolism via TCA and redox pathways.

One‐Pot Incorporation of Quantum Defects into Single‐Walled Carbon Nanotubes with Arylazo Sulfonates

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
We present a photochemical strategy to create complex aromatic quantum defects in carbon nanotubes using arylazo sulfonates. It provides access to brighter carbon nanotubes without purification and simpler biofunctionalization. Abstract Single‐walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) consist of a carbon monolayer and fluoresce in the near‐infrared (NIR, 800 ...

Millimolar concentrations of free magnesium enhance exocytosis from permeabilized rat pheochromocytoma (PC 12) cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
The role of Mg2+ during the final steps of exocytosis was investigated using rat pheochromocytoma cells (PC12) permeabilized with bacterial pore forming toxins.

Pharmacological Microglial Inhibition Remodels the Scar Microenvironment to Support Reticulospinal Circuit Reconstruction After Spinal Cord Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study establishes pharmacological microglial inhibition as a therapeutic strategy, demonstrating its capacity to remodel the lesion microenvironment through significant reduction of extracellular matrix deposition. This permissive environmental transformation facilitates robust regeneration of the reticulospinal tract, and reconstructs functional ...

Effect of posterior hypothalamic knife cuts on the baroreflex and hemorrhage-induced hormonal responses. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
We made posterior hypothalamic knife cuts in rats to transect the fibers of the medial forebrain bundle (MFB) at the level of the mammillary body. The role of the MFB in the baroreflex and hemorrhage-induced hormonal responses was then examined in the ...

Norepinephrine Induces Sertoli Cell Ferroptosis via Receptors Desensitization Causing Stress‐Related Male Reproductive Dysfunction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Psychological stress activates the sympathetic–adrenal axis, elevating norepinephrine (NE) and suppressing reproductive hormones, thereby impairing male reproduction. Excess NE overactivates and desensitizes β‐adrenergic receptors (β‐ARs), triggering Sertoli cell ferroptosis and disrupting spermatogenesis.

A subcutaneous adipose tissue-liver signalling axis controls hepatic gluconeogenesis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The search for effective treatments for obesity and its comorbidities is of prime importance. We previously identified IKK-ε and TBK1 as promising therapeutic targets for the treatment of obesity and associated insulin resistance. Here we show that acute
