Effects of span-to-depth ratios on moment connection damage evolution under catenary action

open access: yesJournal of Constructional Steel Research, 2017
This paper proposes an improved method for determining the gravity resistance of a moment resisting beam-column assembly following an interior column loss. The proposed method accounts for the connection's damage evolution and for the catenary mechanism developed by the assembly as it deflects downward.

Structural behaviour of fully coupled spar–mooring system under extreme wave loading

open access: yesJournal of Civil Engineering and Management, 2014
Floating spar platform has been proven to be an economical and efficient type of offshore oil and gas exploration structure in deep and ultra-deep seas. Associated nonlinearities, coupled action, damping effect and extreme sea environments may modify its

Analysis and suppression of operational overvoltage and inrush current for high‐speed trains by automatic phase‐switching technique

open access: yesHigh Voltage
When a high‐speed train approaches the insulated phase‐splitting section embedded between neighbouring power supply arms, the vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) installed on trains must be disconnected to maintain the traction power supply system as a no‐load ...

Vortex-induced vibration of catenary riser: reduced-order modeling and lock-in analysis using wake oscillator [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
A new reduced-order model capable of analyzing the vortex-induced vibration of catenary riser in the ocean current has been developed. This semi analytical-numerical approach is versatile and allows for a significant reduction in computational effort for

Research on dynamic characteristics of pantograph arc under cross wind

open access: yes机车电传动, 2022
The pantograph arc has become an important factor restricting the further development of high-speed trains. Therefore, in-depth research on the characteristics of pantograph arc is of great significance for further analyzing the damage characteristics of

Partial hinge detailing to improve catenary action of reinforced concrete frames

open access: yes, 2012
Progressive collapse resistance of buildings can be evaluated by introducing a middle column removal scenario to mobilize alternate load paths (ALP). Catenary action, one of ALPs, uses tensile force throughout beams to balance external loads applied onto structures. To this end, large deflections and rotations of beams must be achieved.

EMUs Pantograph Aerodynamics Experimental Research in Dropping Status under Strong Wind Condition

open access: yes机车电传动, 2016
When EMUs run at a high speed, the pantograph would be affected by airflow and blown up in dropping status, which would result in catenary short-circuit fault. In order to evaluate the pantograph aerodynamics characteristics in dropping status and ensure
