Thermally Drawn Shape and Stiffness Programmable Fibers for Medical Devices
Thermal drawing technique is adapted to fabricate Shape Memory Polymer Fibers (SMPFs) with programmable stiffness and shape. Multilumen and multimaterial SMPFs are developed for innovative medical devices: stiffness adjustable catheters, body temperature softening neural interfaces, and shape programmable cochlear implants.

Magnetic Ball Chain Robots for Cardiac Arrhythmia Treatment [PDF]
This paper introduces a novel magnetic navigation system for cardiac ablation. The system is formed from two key elements: a magnetic ablation catheter consisting of a chain of spherical permanent magnets; and an actuation system comprised of two cart-mounted permanent magnets undergoing pure rotation.

An automated near-real time computational method for induction and treatment of scar-related ventricular tachycardias [PDF]
Catheter ablation is currently the only curative treatment for scar-related ventricular tachycardias (VTs). However, not only are ablation procedures long, with relatively high risk, but success rates are punitively low, with frequent VT recurrence. Personalized in-silico approaches have the opportunity to address these limitations.

Modeling and Control of Steerable Ablation Catheters [PDF]
Catheters are long, flexible tubes that are extensively used in vascular and cardiac interventions, e.g., cardiac ablation, coronary angiography and mitral valve annuloplasty.

Impact of left atrial volume, sphericity, and fibrosis on the outcome of catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation [PDF]
INTRODUCTION: To investigate the relation between left atrial (LA) volume, sphericity, and fibrotic content derived from contrast-enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CE-CMR) and their impact on the outcome of catheter ablation for atrial ...

Catheter ablation of epicardial ventricular tachycardia
Ventricular tachycardias (VTs) can usually be treated by endocardial catheter ablation. However, some VTs can arise from the epicardial surface, and their substrate can be altered only by epicardial catheter ablation.

Improving Catheter Segmentation & Localization in 3D Cardiac Ultrasound Using Direction-Fused FCN [PDF]
Fast and accurate catheter detection in cardiac catheterization using harmless 3D ultrasound (US) can improve the efficiency and outcome of the intervention. However, the low image quality of US requires extra training for sonographers to localize the catheter.

A magnetic microrobot fabricated by Spirulina platensis is proposed to accumulate in tumor regions and generate in situ high calcium concentration and sufficient oxygen. These characteristics of the microrobot present a strategy for triggering calcium overload therapy and chlorophyll‐mediated photodynamic therapy, and such combination resulted in a ...
