Outcomes of catheter ablation vs. medical treatment for atrial fibrillation and heart failure: a meta-analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2023
BackgroundThe benefit of catheter ablation vs. medical treatment has been reported to be inconsistent in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) due to different enrollment criteria. This meta-

Joule‐Assisted Nanotherapeutic Urethral Stent (JANUS) for Spatiotemporal Theragenerative Treatment of Urethral Strictures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Joule‐assisted nanotherapeutic urethral stent harnesses a smart, biodegradable magnesium stent to orchestrate spatiotemporal theragenerative therapy for urethral strictures. Magnetically induced Joule heating enables on‐demand drug release and bacterial ablation, while simultaneously guiding urothelial regeneration.

Ethanol Infusion of Vein of Marshall for the Treatment of Persistent Atrial Fibrillation: The Basics and Clinical Practice

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Development and Disease, 2022
Catheter ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation (PeAF) is particularly challenging, as the clinical outcomes are modest. Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) plus linear ablation is one of the main strategies for PeAF ablation.

Cooling or Warming the Esophagus to Reduce Esophageal Injury During Left Atrial Ablation in the Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Ablation of the left atrium using either radiofrequency (RF) or cryothermal energy is an effective treatment for atrial fibrillation (AF) and is the most frequent type of cardiac ablation procedure performed. Although generally safe, collateral injury to

The Emerging 4D Printing of Shape‐Memory Thermomorphs for Self‐Adaptative Biomedical Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
4D printing enables the creation of smart implants that adapt to changing conditions in the human body over time. At the core of this technology are shape‐memory thermomorphs (SMTMs). This review offers an in‐depth analysis of 4D printing with SMTMs, emphasizing the latest advancements in smart materials, stimuli, programming principles, and their ...

Epicardial Ablation of Ventricular Tachycardia with Manual Controlled External Irrigation in a Patient with Nonischemic Cardiomyopathy

open access: yesJournal of Arrhythmia, 2009
We describe a patient with nonischemic cardiomyopathy who underwent radiofrequency (RF) catheter ablation for a drug-refractory ventricular tachycardia (VT). RF ablation from a left ventricular (LV) endocardial site failed to eliminate the VT.

Approaches to catheter ablation for persistent atrial fibrillation.

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2015
BACKGROUND Catheter ablation is less successful for persistent atrial fibrillation than for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Guidelines suggest that adjuvant substrate modification in addition to pulmonary-vein isolation is required in persistent atrial ...

Catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation: an update [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) is now an important therapeutic modality for patients with AF. There is considerable evidence available from several prospective randomized trials demonstrating that catheter ablation of AF is superior to ...

Engineered Peptides‐Based Hybrid‐Nested Microneedle Effectively Treat Biofilm‐Infected Diabetic Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid‐nested microneedle/cryogel scaffold (MQW‐CMg‐MOF) is designed for efficient biofilm removal and accelerated healing of diabetic wounds. The scaffold shows substantial biofilm removal in vitro and in a preclinical diabetic swine biofilm‐infected wound model compared to the control.
