Cathodic hydrogen charging of zinc

Corrosion Science, 2014
Abstract The effect of cathodic hydrogen charging on the structural and mechanical characteristics of zinc was investigated. Hardening of the surface layers of zinc, due to hydrogen incorporation and possible formation of ZnH2, was observed. In addition, the residual stresses brought about by the incorporation of hydrogen atoms into the metallic ...

Formative time of the cathodic space charge

Il Nuovo Cimento, 1954
The present paper sets forth a criterion for the evaluation of the formative time of the cathodic space charge, beginning with the moment at which the discharge becomes self-standing. Such a criterion is based on two facts to be observed in the study of intermittent discharges with a low-pressure gas: 1) it is possible to note a rise time of the ...

Space-Charge Effects Near A Cathode

Proceedings of the 2005 Particle Accelerator Conference, 2006
RF photocathode guns are excellent sources of high brightness electron bunches. To mitigate space charge effects downstream of the gun it is often desirable to produce electron bunches with a uniform density distribution. Our goal is to understand how the longitudinal bunch profile is determined by the emission dictated by the laser pulse intensity and

Space Charge Distribution in the Cathode Fall Region of an Ar Hollow Cathode Discharge

Applied Spectroscopy, 1988
The electric field above the cathode surface of an Ar hollow cathode discharge has been measured by optogalvanic Stark spectroscopy. The field depends on the radial position of illumination and describes the radial distribution of the space charge density, ρ(r), as ρ(r) = –Ar + B, where r is the radial position and the parameters A and B are positive ...

Hollow cathode effects in charge development processes in transient hollow cathode discharges

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 1995
A detailed experimental study of space charge formation and ionization growth in transient hollow cathode discharges (THCD) is presented. The experiment was performed with an applied step voltage up to 30 kV, with rise time less than 50 ns. The discharge was operated in different gases, at pressures in the range 50-750 mTorr, with cathode apertures ...

A Charged-Particle Detector Based on Proportional Tubes with a Segmented Cathode and Cathode Readout

Instruments and Experimental Techniques, 2001
A charged-particle detector based on proportional tubes with cathode readout is described. The cathode is sectionalized into 2.2 × 2.2-cm pads. The detector was tested on high-energy particle beams. At an anode-to-cathode distance of 1.1 cm, the spatial resolution was 1.25 mm along the anode wire.

Cathodic disbonding of paint films-transport of charge

Corrosion Science, 1993
Abstract Cathodic disbonding and charge transport through paint films were studied as a function of polarization potential, temperature, dry-film thickness and cation type in the electrolyte. It was found that both the disbonding rate and the charge transport were linearly related to the polarization potential.

Charge Storage in Cathode-Ray Tubes

Proceedings of the IRE, 1951
The charging process in cathode-ray tubes used for static storage of information is analyzed for both a stationary spot and a linear scan, with and without redistribution of secondary electrons. Approximate equations are derived for the surface potentials and charging current as functions of time and other parameters, such as primary beam current ...

Effect of cathodic charging on the mechanical properties of aluminum

Metallurgical Transactions A, 1988
The effects of cathodically charged hydrogen on the mechanical properties of pure aluminum have been studied through the use of tensile and microhardness tests. The effects have been further examined with TEM observations of the microstructural changes that accompanied the charging.

Entropy-Tailored Fast-Charging Sodium Layered Cathodes

Journal of the American Chemical Society
O3-type layered transition metal (TM) oxides are widely used as cathode materials for Na-ion batteries due to their high energy density potential, enabled by the state of charge (SoC)-dependent transition from octahedral (O-type) to prismatic (P-type) structures during Na-ion (de)sodiation.
