Kinetics, thermodynamics, gas evolution and empirical optimization of cattle manure combustion in air and oxy-fuel atmospheres

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2019
Thermogravimetric (TG) and TG-Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analyses were performed to quantify the comparative performances of cattle manure combustion in air (N2/O2) and oxy-fuel (CO2/O2) atmospheres at four heating rates.

Pipeline vs. truck transport of beef cattle manure

Biomass and Bioenergy, 2005
Anaerobic digestion of manure can be conducted at a wide range of capacities. As capacity increases, economies of scale in capital equipment are realized but transportation costs increase as manure must be carried longer distances to the plant site. In this study we evaluate the cost of pipelining manure from beef cattle confined feeding operations,

Anaerobic fermentation of cattle manure: Modeling of hydrolysis and acidogenesis

Water Research, 2007
A mathematical model for the hydrolysis and acidogenesis reactions in anaerobic digestion of cattle manure is presented. This model is based on the premise that particulate hydrolysable fraction of cattle manure is composed of cellulose and hemicellulose that are hydrolyzed at different rates according to a surface-limiting reaction; and, that the ...

Thermal properties of beef cattle manure

Agricultural Wastes, 1983
Abstract The thermal conductivity of beef cattle manure was measured by a transient state method, while its specific heat was measured by a classical method of mixtures. The specific heat of beef cattle manure was found to decrease as Total Solids concentration (TS) increased, ranging from 4·13 kJkg−1 °C−1 at 1·42% TS to 1·400 kJkg−1 °C−1 at 99·4% TS.

Enhancing anaerobic hydrolysis of cattle manure in leachbed reactors

Bioresource Technology, 2009
In this study, it is hypothesized that anaerobic hydrolysis of organic solid wastes (OSWs) in leachbed reactors can be enhanced by two approaches: (1) by increasing the porosity of the leachbed; and (2) by seeding the bed with brown-rot fungi or anaerobically digested residues.

Dissipation of the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole in a soil amended with anaerobically digested cattle manure.

Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2019
The application of anaerobically digested cattle manure on agricultural land for both improving its quality and recycling a farm waste is an increasingly frequent practice in line with the circular economy.
