Fire Constrains Orchid Occurrence in Chapada Diamantina, Brazil

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 50, Issue 12, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Fires are key ecological disturbances in tropical ecosystems and are shifting in response to human activities, underscoring the need to understand species‐specific responses. Their impacts on orchids remain poorly understood, particularly in biodiverse tropical mosaics such as the Chapada Diamantina region in Brazil.

Coloured polyhydroxyalkanoates: A review

open access: yesColoration Technology, Volume 141, Issue 5, Page 603-620, October 2025.
Abstract Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are a class of biopolymers produced by various microorganisms, with poly(3‐hydroxybutyrate) being the most extensively studied. PHAs are widely studied as substitutes for conventional plastics due to their similar physicochemical properties. However, the production cost of PHAs remains high.

A new set of microsatellite loci for Cattleya walkeriana Gardner, an endangered tropical orchid species and its transferability to Cattleya loddigesii Lindl. and Cattleya nobilior Reichenbach [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Genetic Resources: Characterization and Utilization, 2017
AbstractIn this study, we isolate and analyse a new set of microsatellite loci for Cattleya walkeriana. Twenty-two primer pairs were screened for C. walkeriana (n = 32) and assessed for their transferability to Cattleya loddigesii (n = 12) and Cattleya nobilior (n = 06). All loci amplified for C. walkeriana; however, for C. loddigesii and C.

Identification of Fungicides in Hevea brasiliensis Latex Serum Extracts and Inhibition Against Phytophthora palmivora, a Black Rot Disease Pathogen in Orchids

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Agriculture and Environment, Volume 4, Issue 3, September 2025.
ABSTRACT The para rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) is an economic crop cultivated worldwide, particularly in Southeast Asia. Their latex serum is commonly treated as waste in the rubber industry. We aimed to investigate the latex serum for its antifungal activity.

Aclimatização de Cattleya (Orchidaceae), em substratos alternativos ao xaxim e ao esfagno - DOI: 10.4025/actasciagron.v30i4.5299

open access: yesActa Scientiarum. Agronomy, 2008
O xaxim desfibrado e o esfagno são os substratos mais utilizados pelos produtores brasileiros para aclimatização de orquídeas, porém ambos correm o risco de serem extintos e a coleta está proibida pelo Ibama.

A Short‐Read Amplicon Sequencing Protocol and Bioinformatic Pipeline for Ecological Surveillance of Dipteran Disease Vectors

open access: yesMolecular Ecology Resources, Volume 25, Issue 6, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Vector control remains an important strategy worldwide to prevent human infection with pathogens transmitted by arthropods. Vector control strategies rely on accurate identification of vector taxa along with vector‐specific biological indicators such as feeding ecology, infection prevalence and insecticide resistance.
