FEATURES OF EUROPEAN ADAPTATION OF NORTH CAUCASIAN EMIGRANTS IN THE 1920-1930-s: PROBLEMS OF LANGUAGE AND EDUCATION

open access: yesКавказология, 2020
The aim of this article is to describe the key aspects of adaptation of North Caucasians who emigrated to Europe in the 1920-s. The author considers language problems (French, Russian and North Caucasian languages) and problems of education and training ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Cell geometry and membrane protein crowding constrain Escherichia coli growth rate, overflow metabolism, respiration, and maintenance energy

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The physical dimensions and shape of bacterial cells define the surface area available to acquire nutrients and the volume available for synthesizing proteins and DNA. Here, we use computational systems biology to decode the importance of cell geometry as a major determinant of prokaryotic phenotype, including growth rate and metabolic efficiency. This

Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

The Genre of “Memoir of a Map” in Linguistic Geography of the 18th Century

open access: yesИзвестия Южного федерального университета: Филологические науки, 2017
The paper is devoted to the rare genre of «memoir of a map» widespread in Great Britain in the 18th century. The authors analyze the little-known George Ellis’s book «Memoir of a Map of the Countries Comprehended Between the Black Sea and the Caspian ...

Phosphoinositides and inositol phosphates as molecular glues

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol phosphates (IPs) and phosphoinositides (PIPs) regulate diverse eukaryotic processes. Beyond recruiting signaling proteins or acting as structural cofactors, recent studies suggest they mediate protein–protein interactions as natural molecular glues.

Language and Identity in Historical Caucasian German

open access: yesCadernos de Linguística
Varieties of German outside the German-speaking area in Europe are often in close contact with surrounding languages and differ from Standard German with respect to various linguistic phenomena. We present a study on a diasporic variety of German spoken

Raman spectroscopy and electronic microscopy structural studies of Caucasian and Afro human hair

open access: yesHeliyon, 2019
Human hair fibre is subjected to various structural modifications due to the application of chemicals such as dyes, shampoos and bleaches and/or physical procedures such as heating, and often more than one procedure is performed on the same hair.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
