Improvement of the adhesive capacity of SBR for footwear outsoles by surface activation and coating deposition with atmospheric pressure plasma

open access: yesPlasma Processes and Polymers, Volume 18, Issue 9, September 2021., 2021
The bond strength of styrene‐butadiene rubber (SBR)/polyurethane adhesive/leather joints was improved by using atmospheric pressure plasma to activate and coat the SBR. For coated, flat SBR, this improvement was due to a considerable increase in surface polar carbon–oxygen groups.

Five Hundred Years of Mercury Exposure and Adaptation

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2012, Issue 1, 2012., 2012
Mercury is added to the biosphere by anthropogenic activities raising the question of whether changes in the human chromatin, induced by mercury, in a parental generation could allow adaptation of their descendants to mercury. We review the history of Andean mining since pre‐Hispanic times in Huancavelica, Peru.
