The organization of the Caulobacter crescentus flagellar filament

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1989
The structural organization of the flagellar filament of Caulobacter crescentus, as revealed by immunoelectron microscopy, shows five antigenically distinct regions within the hook-filament complex. The first region is the hook. The second region is adjacent to the hook and is approximately 10 nm in length.

Spatial regulation in Caulobacter crescentus

Current Opinion in Microbiology, 2009
The proper positioning of regulatory proteins has a central role in the organization of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Important insights into the principles that underlie the spatial control of cellular processes have been gained from studies on the asymmetric bacterium C. crescentus.

Chromosome segregation and development in Caulobacter crescentus

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1974
Abstract The pattern of genome segregation to progeny stalked and swarmer cells of Caulobacter crescentus has been determined in a study of the localization of information in developing cells. The genome of stalked cells was labeled with [ 3 H]deoxy-guanosine to mark one of the two DNA strands preferentially.

Nucleoids of Caulobacter crescentus CB15

Microbiology, 1982
SUMMARY: Nucleoids isolated from heterogeneous populations of Caulobacter crescentus were invariably associated with the cell envelope. The cell types from which nucleoids were derived were easily identifiable because of the distinctive dimorphic cell cycle of this organism.

Regulation of the replication initiator DnaA in Caulobacter crescentus

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Gene Regulatory Mechanisms, 2019
The decision to initiate DNA replication is a critical step in the cell cycle of all organisms. In nearly all bacteria, replication initiation requires the activity of the conserved replication initiation protein DnaA. Due to its central role in cell cycle progression, DnaA activity must be precisely regulated.

Regulation of chromosomal replication in Caulobacter crescentus

Plasmid, 2012
The alpha-proteobacterium Caulobacter crescentus is characterized by its asymmetric cell division, which gives rise to a replicating stalked cell and a non-replicating swarmer cell. Thus, the initiation of chromosomal replication is tightly regulated, temporally and spatially, to ensure that it is coordinated with cell differentiation and cell cycle ...

Molecular characterization of Caulobacter crescentus mutator strains

Gene, 2017
Mutator strains were identified by screening random Tn5 insertion clones of Caulobacter crescentus. We identified clones with robust increases in mutation rates with Tn5 insertions in the mutY, mutS, mutL and uvrD genes, known to act in mutation-preventing pathways in Escherichia coli.

Development in Caulobacter crescentus

1992
Caulobacters are dimorphic bacteria, with a motile phase in which the cell body is flagellated, and a sessile stage, when the cell grows a stalk. Development involves the asymmetric division of the parent stalked cell to yield one flagellated swarmer cell and one stalked cell, followed by differentiation of the swarmer cell into a stalked cell. Amino Acid Composition of Peptidoglycan in Caulobacter crescentus

The Journal of Biochemistry, 1976
Peptidoglycan of a gram-negative stalked bacterium, Caulobacter crescentus CB13, contained alanine, diaminopimelic acid, and glutamic acid, in molar ratios of 2 : 1 : 1. The amino acid compositions of peptidoglycans isolated from cultures enriched in swarmer and stalked cells, and from a stalk-less mutant were similar.
