Caustic oesophageal stricture treated by instrumental dilatation: A review of 6 years of practice at the pediatric university hospital charles de gaulle of Ouagadougou

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Paediatric Surgery, 2023
Background: Oesophageal stricture is one of the most important and redoubtable complications following caustic ingestions in children. Instrumental dilatation is usually considered the first line of treatment.

On the Intrinsic Bias in detecting Caustic Crossings between Galactic Halo and Self-lensing Events in the Magellanic Clouds [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
In this paper, we investigate the intrinsic bias in detecting caustic crossings between Galactic halo and self-lensing events in the Magellanic Clouds. For this, we determine the region for optimal caustic-crossing detection in the parameter space of the

By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Caustics Formation by a Spherical Reflector – Geometric and Wave Field Analysis with Applications in Room Acoustics and Radio Astronomy

open access: yesEngineering Transactions
Based on the principles of geometrical optics, an analytical description of caustics generated in a spherical mirror is presented. The formation of caustics in a wave field is studied using acoustic and electromagnetic waves as an example.

IMAGES DISTRIBUTION OF BINARY SYMMETRICAL GRAVITATIONAL LENS

open access: yesOdessa Astronomical Publications, 2019
In this paper, we study the distribu- tion of images from a point source in N - point gravi- tational lenses. It is well known that in a Schwarzschild lens (N = 1) from a point source, there are always two images.

Sending femtosecond pulses in circles: highly non-paraxial accelerating beams

open access: yes, 2012
We use caustic beam shaping on 100 fs pulses to experimentally generate non-paraxial accelerating beams along a 60 degree circular arc, moving laterally by 14 \mum over a 28 \mum propagation length.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Caustic Ingestion in the Elderly: Influence of Age on Clinical Outcome

open access: yesMolecules, 2017
Caustic poisonings are still associated with many fatalities. Studies focusing on the elderly are rare. The purpose of the present study was to compare the clinical outcomes of caustic ingestion injury in elderly and non-elderly adults with regard to ...

Uniform approximation for the overlap caustic of a quantum state with its translations

open access: yes, 2007
The semiclassical Wigner function for a Bohr-quantized energy eigenstate is known to have a caustic along the corresponding classical closed phase space curve in the case of a single degree of freedom.
