Enkephalin-degrading dipeptidylcarboxypeptidases in human and Cavia porcellus plasma

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Pharmacology, Toxicology and Endocrinology, 1993
1. The dipeptidylcarboxypeptidases that degrade leucine enkephalin in human and guinea pig plasma were studied by kinetic and chromatographic techniques. 2. The extremely rapid degradation of enkephalins in Cavia plasma seems to be caused by both increased activity of enzymes and reduced role of inhibitors. 3.

Comparative hematology: Studies on guinea-pigs (Cavia porcellus)

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1992
1. Guinea-pig blood clots rapidly and the clots retract in glass tubes. The prothrombin time is long and the activated partial thromboplastin time short compared to human. The Russel viper venom time is similar to human. 2. Factors VII and X assay at levels far below and factors V, VIII and XII assay far above human levels.

Estrogens in the guinea pig (Cavia porcellus)

1974
Homogenates of ovaries prepared from pregnant and non-pregnant guinea pigs and incubated in the presence of a THNH-generating system for 90 minutes converted both 3H-dehydroisoandrosterone and 14C-testoterone to estradiol-17β. Under the same conditions adrenal and placental homogenates did not form any recognizable estrogens.

Urethral catheterization in the female guinea pig (Cavia porcellus)

Lab Animal, 2011
Urethral catheterization of the female guinea pig has potential diagnostic, therapeutic and research applications. Urethral catheter placement in the female guinea pig is relatively easy to carry out and has fewer potential complications than does catheter placement in male guinea pigs.
