Polimorfismos en la longitud de fragmentos amplificados (AFLP´s) a partir de muestras de sangre almacenadas en tarjetas FTA® para la especie Cavia porcellus Lin. (Rodentia: Caviidae) Amplified Fragments Length Polymorphisms (AFLP´s) from blood samples stored in FTA® cards for Cavia porcellus

Conjoined twins (Siamese) in guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus): description of anatomopathological findings of a case of cephalothoracoonphalopagus [PDF]

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia
The objective of the research was to describe the physical characteristics, through X-rays and necropsy in conjoined twins (Siamese twins) of female guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus). The study sample was located in Cusco, Peru.

Can we study whisker movements to gain insights into the natural sensory behaviours of mammals?

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 603, Issue 22, Page 6733-6745, November 15, 2025.
Abstract figure legend The recommended future of whisker science research is integrating findings from the laboratory with studies from other captive institutions (such as zoos, rehabilitation centres and specialist research institutes) and field observations.

Saltatory axonal conduction in the avian retina

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, Volume 603, Issue 21, Page 6533-6547, November 1, 2025.
Abstract figure legend Intraretinal axonal spike conduction was studied across multiple avian and mammalian species using high‐resolution multielectrode arrays. On the electrode array, saltatory axonal spike conduction was readily apparent and distinguishable from non‐saltatory conduction.

Time and Media‐Dependent Modulation of Sperm Capacitation in Red‐Rumped Agouti (Dasyprocta leporina Linnaeus, 1758)

open access: yesMolecular Reproduction and Development, Volume 92, Issue 9, September 2025.
ABSTRACT The increasing focus on understanding spermatozoa mechanisms in rodents aims to enhance reproductive stability and support conservation efforts, particularly for ecologically significant and declining species like the red‐rumped agouti. We aimed to evaluate the interaction between capacitation media and time, testing BSA concentrations—low (4 ...

The Investigation of Latanoprost's Effects on the Intraocular Pressure of Healthy Male guinea Pigs Under Light and Dark Regimes

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 11, Issue 5, September 2025.
Latanoprost (0.005%) lowers intraocular pressure (IOP) more effectively in guinea pigs kept in darkness than in light. IOP reduction was significant at 7:00 and 8:00, with systemic absorption affecting untreated eyes. These results suggest that aligning treatment with circadian IOP variations may improve glaucoma management.

Proliferative and neoplastic aural pinna masses in a collection of African giant pouched rats (Cricetomys ansorgei)

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 13, Issue 3, September 2025.
Abstract This case series describes aural lesions occurring in five African giant pouched rats (Cricetomys ansorgei) residing at a single zoological institution in southern California. Age of onset ranged from 3 to 7 years. Lesions occurred as single or multiple masses on one or both ears. A single case also developed a nasal mass.

Biochemical profile of urine in guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus)

open access: yesVeterinární Medicína, 2020
Guinea pigs are common patients in veterinary clinics. Knowledge of the urine composition is necessary for the evaluation of their health. We, therefore, analysed the urine of fifty guinea pigs, thirty-two males, and eighteen females, aged between four ...

A phosphoserine phosphatase variant present in the brain of Alzheimer's disease patients favors nuclear mistargeting

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 292, Issue 18, Page 4955-4974, September 2025.
l‐serine levels in the human brain are maintained by the phosphorylated pathway, a three‐step process catalyzed by phosphoglycerate dehydrogenase (PHGDH), phosphoserine aminotransferase (PSAT) and phosphoserine phosphatase (PSP). These enzymes assemble in a metabolon called the serinosome. The double R27S/D32G PSP variant was identified in the brain of

Morphofunctional Space of the Forelimb in Caraguatypotherium munozi (Notoungulata; Mesotheriidae): Insights Into Wrist‐Powered Digging

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 286, Issue 8, August 2025.
Caraguatypotherium munozi displays a distinctive morphofunctional configuration combining high wrist flexor leverage with reduced elbow mechanical advantage—traits consistent with wrist‐dominated scratch‐digging. Multivariate analyses place it outside the core morphospaces of extant locomotor groups.
