Jet Pump Cavitation

open access: yesJournal of Basic Engineering, 1970
Mixing-throat cavitation in a liquid jet pump results from high jet velocities, low suction (NPSH) pressure, or low discharge pressure. Incipient cavitation at the jet boundary has no effect on jet pump efficiency, but under severe conditions it spreads to the walls.

Criteria for jet cavitation and cavitation jet drilling

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Minings Sciences, 2014
Abstract The research history of cavitation jets is reviewed, and a mechanism that explains cavitation, methods to measure when cavitation occurs and factors that affect cavitation are introduced. The rationality of the cavitation number, which is often used to predict cavitation, is discussed.

Mapping cavitation impact field in a submerged cavitating jet

open access: yesWear, 2018
Abstract A full assessment of the cavitation erosion potential of a cavitating jet necessitates the determination of the cavitation impact field. However, a detailed description of the impact intensity and spatial distribution of the large numbers of cavitation impacts has not been fully established.

Cavitation intensity and erosion pattern of a self-excited cavitating jet

Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2020
Abstract The self-excited water jet technology is widely used in submerged conditions, while its performance is restricted under high confining pressure. To improve its erosive capability, the cavitation intensity and the erosion pattern of a self-excited cavitating jet (SECJ) were investigated through mass loss and the microscopic images of the ...

Jet Impact and Cavitation Damage

open access: yesJournal of Basic Engineering, 1968
On the basis of presently known erosion theories, an analogy is made between jet impact and cavitation erosion, and confirmed by experiments. As a consequence of this analogy, data on jet impact experiments are used to explain some peculiar aspects of cavitation damage.

Preparation of graphene by jet cavitation

Nanotechnology, 2011
Despite its bright prospects, graphene faces challenges including issues concerning mass production. Here we present a totally green approach whereby common crystal graphite can be exfoliated into graphene sheets in aqueous solution by jet cavitation. This is possible mainly because the tensile stress caused by graphite-solution interfacial reflection ...

Cavitation of a submerged jet

Experiments in Fluids, 2013
A cavitation cloud forms when a high-pressure water jet is submerged in a tank of quiescent water. The water jet is formed as high-pressure nitrogen forces a fixed-volume column of water through a nozzle. The diameter and exit velocity of the water jet affect the behavior and geometry of the resulting cavitation.
