Hirschsprung's Disease in the Neonate Presenting as Cecal Perforation

open access: closedPediatrics, 1969
Two cases of cecal perforation in neonates due to Hirscbsprung's disease are presented. The clinical features in the two cases were increasing abdominal distension due to dilated bowel and pneumoperitoneum. The diagnosis was missed in the first case and, as a result, the infant was treated by simple closure of the perforation.

Early onset of cecal perforation in neonatal, recto‐sigmoid type Hirschsprung's disease

open access: closedPediatrics International, 1994
AbstractHirschsprung's disease has been considered to cause intestinal perforation in rare cases. Even if a perforation occurs, the majority of cases are associated with the long‐segment or total colonic type. Our case developed the perforation in the neonatal period in spite of being of the recto‐sigmoidal type, and it affected the cecum.

Immune Responses in Cecal Tonsils of Marek's Disease Virus–Infected Chickens

open access: closedAvian Diseases, 2015
Marek's disease (MD) is a lymphoproliferative disease of domestic chickens that is caused by a highly cell-associated oncogenic α-herpesvirus, Marek's disease virus (MDV). MDV replicates in chicken lymphocytes and establishes a latent infection within CD4+ T cells.

Benign cecal ulcers

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1985
Benign ulceration of the cecum is an uncommon lesion. Most cases are diagnosed intraoperatively and most authors have advocated right hemicolectomy due to the difficulty in differentiating benign from malignant lesions. Recently colonoscopic diagnosis and conservative treatment have been reported.

Granulomatous disease of the appendix manifesting as a cecal mass

Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 1980
We report the case of a 29-year-old man in whom isolated involvement of the appendix with granulomatous colitis or Crohn's disease manifested as a cecal mass. Appendectomy was performed. At operation the terminal ileum did not appear to be grossly involved. Careful long-term follow-up is essential in these patients to detect recurrent disease.
