Cell-Free Massive MIMO for Wireless Federated Learning [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications, 2020
This paper proposes a novel scheme for cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (CFmMIMO) networks to support any federated learning (FL) framework. This scheme allows each instead of all the iterations of the FL framework to happen in a large-scale coherence time to guarantee a stable operation of an FL process.

Integrated LEO Constellation and In‐Cabin Distribution System for Continuous Aircraft 5G Connectivity

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The integration of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations with commercial aircraft communication systems presents critical challenges in maintaining continuous connectivity during dynamic flight conditions. Current geostationary satellite systems suffer from high round‐trip latency (>$$ > $$ 500 ms) and inadequate coverage at high ...

Low‐Complexity Hybrid Beamforming for LEO Satellites: Beam Update Rate Analysis and Advanced Adaptive Precoding

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations offer unprecedented opportunities for global broadband connectivity but pose significant beamforming challenges due to rapid platform motion and stringent onboard hardware constraints. Fully digital architectures, while optimal in theory, remain impractical for satellite payloads, motivating ...

Asynchronous Cell-Free Massive MIMO With Rate-Splitting

open access: yesIEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 2023
In practical cell-free (CF) massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) networks with distributed and low-cost access points, the asynchronous arrival of signals at the user equipments increases multi-user interference that degrades the system performance. Meanwhile, rate-splitting (RS), exploiting the transmission of both common and private messages,

On the Total Energy Efficiency of Cell-Free Massive MIMO [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Green Communications and Networking, 2018
We consider the cell-free massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) downlink, where a very large number of distributed multiple-antenna access points (APs) serve many single-antenna users in the same time-frequency resource. A simple (distributed) conjugate beamforming scheme is applied at each AP via the use of local channel state information (CSI)

A Joint Channel Modeling, Parameter Estimation and Geometry‐Based Indoor Localization for 5G Systems

open access: yesTransactions on Emerging Telecommunications Technologies, Volume 37, Issue 6, June 2026.
We propose an end‐to‐end method to accurately localize mobile stations in indoor scenarios, such as those found in Industry 4.0. To this end, we jointly perform wireless channel modeling considering mmWave and MIMO technologies, parameter estimation in 3D, and simple and fine‐grained geometry‐based localization.

Frozen Differential Scattering in Reconfigurable Complex Media

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, Volume 20, Issue 11, 5 June 2026.
A localized perturbation universally results in a rank‐one update of the scattering matrix of any complex medium. The resulting differential output wavefront is “frozen”: its spatial pattern is fixed (agnostic to the input wavefront). Experiments with a programmable‐metasurface‐parametrized wireless link validate frozen differential scattering and ...

Symbol‐Level GRAND‐Assisted Detection for Polar‐Coded Spatial Modulation in MIMO Systems

open access: yesInternational Journal of Communication Systems, Volume 39, Issue 7, 10 May 2026.
This research presents an integrated polar‐coded spatial modulation (PCSM) transceiver scheme for MIMO transmission over Rayleigh fading channels. The proposed architecture employs linear spatial signal processing for antenna and symbol estimation, followed by symbol‐level guessing random additive noise decoding (symbol‐level GRAND)–assisted detection ...
