Multiscale modeling of bacterial colonies: how pili mediate the dynamics of single cells and cellular aggregates

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2017
Neisseria gonorrhoeae is the causative agent of one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases, gonorrhea. Over the past two decades there has been an alarming increase of reported gonorrhea cases where the bacteria were resistant to the most ...

Single Cell Motion in Aggregates of Embryonic Cells [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1996
We investigate the motion of individual pigmented retinal cells in aggregates of neural retinal cells obtained from chicken embryos. Individual cells in aggregates move randomly in the absence of chemical or adhesion gradients: the power spectrum of position and velocity versus time correspond to Brownian motion and the velocities are uncorrelated in ...

Genomic Diversity and Clinical Variability in Pediatric Primary Cutaneous Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma: A Case Series

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma (pcALCL) is a rare pediatric CD30‐positive T‐cell lymphoproliferative disorder with an excellent prognosis, but its genomic drivers are poorly defined. We report three children with skin‐limited disease demonstrating striking molecular heterogeneity, including NPM::ALK, NUP214::FRK, and a novel ...

The cultivation conditions affect the aggregation and functionality of β‐cell lines alone and in coculture with mesenchymal stromal/stem cells

open access: yesEngineering in Life Sciences, 2022
The manufacturing of viable and functional β‐cell spheroids is required for diabetes cell therapy and drug testing. Mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (MSCs) are known to improve β‐cell viability and functionality.

Hemorheological Parameters in Diabetic Patients: Role of Glucose Lowering Therapies

open access: yesMetabolites, 2021
Diabetes mellitus influences several important hemorheological parameters including blood viscosity, erythrocyte aggregation and deformability. In the present study, 159 type-2 diabetic patients and 25 healthy controls were involved.

Deforming Tessellations For The Segmentation Of Cell Aggregates [PDF]

open access: yes2019 IEEE 16th International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging (ISBI 2019), 2019
We present a new active contour to segment cell aggregates. We describe it by a smooth tessellation that is attracted toward the cell membranes. Our approach relies on subdivision schemes that are tightly linked to the theory of wavelets. The shape is encoded by control points grouped in tiles.

Are Fertility Preservation Procedures Before Gonadotoxic Therapy and Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Feasible and Safe in Very Young Children? A Retrospective Cohort Study

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Fertility preservation (FP) is increasingly integrated into the care of pediatric patients exposed to gonadotoxic therapy or conditioning for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), yet perioperative data in infants and toddlers remain scarce.

Coaggregation Occurs between a Piliated Unicellular Cyanobacterium, Thermosynechococcus, and a Filamentous Bacterium, Chloroflexus aggregans

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Cyanobacteria are widely distributed in natural environments including geothermal areas. A unicellular cyanobacterium, Thermosynechococcus, in a deeply branching lineage, develops thick microbial mats with other bacteria, such as filamentous anoxygenic ...

Aggregation is a Context-Dependent Constraint on Protein Evolution

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Biosciences, 2021
Solubility is a requirement for many cellular processes. Loss of solubility and aggregation can lead to the partial or complete abrogation of protein function. Thus, understanding the relationship between protein evolution and aggregation is an important

Central Nervous System Neuroblastoma, FOXR2‐Activated: A Pooled Analysis of Published Clinical Outcomes

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Central nervous system (CNS) neuroblastoma, FOXR2‐activated, is a recently recognized entity in the WHO CNS5 classification, defined by activation of the FOXR2 transcription factor and unique histopathological features. This review synthesizes available literature and pooled clinical data, providing insight into demographics ...
