Hypoxia Produces Pro-arrhythmic Late Sodium Current in Cardiac Myocytes by SUMOylation of NaV1.5 Channels. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Acute cardiac hypoxia produces life-threatening elevations in late sodium current (ILATE) in the human heart. Here, we show the underlying mechanism: hypoxia induces rapid SUMOylation of NaV1.5 channels so they reopen when normally inactive, late in the ...

Cell Calcification Models and Their Implications for Medicine and Biomaterial Research

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Calcification, is the process by which the tissues containing minerals are formed, occurring during normal physiological processes, or in pathological conditions. Here, it is aimed to give a comprehensive overview of the range of cell models available, and the approaches taken by these models, highlighting when and how methodological divergences arise,

Photoactivated Proximity Protein Labeling Reveals Enhanced Tumor Retention of a D‐Peptide‐Ruthenium Prodrug Conjugate

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Six stereoisomeric ruthenium‐peptide conjugates were synthesized and characterized, which showed high potential in photoactivated chemotherapy (PACT) and proximity protein labeling. Abstract Amino acid chirality is known to influence the biological properties of peptide‐containing prodrugs.

Fluorescent Polymeric Nanofibers as Ratiometric Multiplexed Skin Sensors of pH and Oxygen

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Fluorescent polymeric nanofibers and nanorods are produced as ratiometric sensors of two important physiological parameters: pH and oxygen. They operate by dual Forster resonance energy transfer from large number of energy donor dyes to limited number of two distinct energy acceptors, enabling simultaneous sensing of pH and oxygen.

Hypoxia-induced HIF-1α/VASN promotes bladder cancer progression

open access: yesScientific Reports
Hypoxia-inducible factor-1 α (HIF-1α) is important in regulating the hypoxia adaptive response of bladder cancer. Vasorin (VASN) is closely related to tumor development. However, the role of VASN in hypoxia-induced bladder cancer remains to be clarified.

Bioengineered Pancreatic Cancer Immunosuppressive Microenvironment Models for Screening Immunotherapies

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Bioengineering tumor‐stroma pancreatic cancer models with potential to emulate the native immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. Cancer‐on‐a‐bead models exhibited higher relevance for screening immunotherapies and modulating the protumoral PDAC microenvironment. ABSTRACT Pancreatic cancer is notably resistant to treatment, primarily due to its dense

Resveratrol attenuates the CoCl2-induced hypoxia damage by regulation of lysine β-hydroxybutyrylation in PC12 cells

open access: yesBMC Neurology
Background Stroke is a cerebrovascular disease that is the main cause of death and disability worldwide. Hypoxia is a major factor that causes neuronal damage and even cellular death.
