Protein Palmitoylation and Its Role in Bacterial and Viral Infections

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
S-palmitoylation is a reversible, enzymatic posttranslational modification of proteins in which palmitoyl chain is attached to a cysteine residue via a thioester linkage.

Recent Advances in Cell Membrane-Camouflaged Nanoparticles for Cancer Phototherapy.

open access: yesSmall, 2018
Phototherapy including photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) employs phototherapeutic agents to generate heat or cytotoxic reactive oxygen species (ROS), and has therefore garnered particular interest for cancer therapy.

CCT4 promotes tunneling nanotube formation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tunneling nanotubes (TNTs) are membranous tunnel‐like structures that transport molecules and organelles between cells. They vary in thickness, and thick nanotubes often contain microtubules in addition to actin fibers. We found that cells expressing monomeric CCT4 generate many thick TNTs with tubulin.

The Physics of Cell Membranes [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Physics, 2003
An overview is given of the fundamental physics underlying the self-assembly, molecular organisation and electrical properties of the membranes that envelop living cells. These ultra thin (∼ 6 nm) membranes act as a diffusion barrier between the cell interior (cytoplasm) and the external medium.

Improving cellular uptake of therapeutic entities through interaction with components of cell membrane

open access: yesDrug Delivery, 2019
Efficient cellular delivery of biologically active molecules is one of the key factors that affect the discovery and development of novel drugs. The plasma membrane is the first barrier that prevents direct translocation of chemic entities, and thus ...

Photosynthesis under far‐red light—evolutionary adaptations and bioengineering of light‐harvesting complexes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phototrophs evolved light‐harvesting systems adapted for efficient photon capture in habitats enriched in far‐red radiation. A subset of eukaryotic pigment‐binding proteins can absorb far‐red photons via low‐energy chlorophyll states known as red forms.

M-Phase Phosphoprotein 9 regulates ciliogenesis by modulating CP110-CEP97 complex localization at the mother centriole

open access: yesNature Communications, 2018
Ciliogenesis is negatively regulated by the CP110-CEP97 complex, although the mechanism controlling mother centriole localization is poorly understood. Here, Huang et al.

Discovery of the Potentiator of the Pore-Forming Ability of Lantibiotic Nisin: Perspectives for Anticancer Therapy

open access: yesMembranes, 2022
This study was focused on the action of lantibiotic nisin on the phospholipid membranes. Nisin did not produce ion-permeable pores in the membranes composed of DOPC or DOPE. The introduction of DOPS into bilayer lipid composition led to a decrease in the

Dlgh1 coordinates actin polymerization, synaptic T cell receptor and lipid raft aggregation, and effector function in T cells. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Lipid raft membrane compartmentalization and membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) family molecular scaffolds function in establishing cell polarity and organizing signal transducers within epithelial cell junctions and neuronal synapses. Here, we

Rad27/FEN1 prevents accumulation of Okazaki fragments and ribosomal DNA copy number changes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The budding yeast Rad27 is a structure‐specific endonuclease. Here, the authors reveal that Rad27 is crucial for maintaining the stability of the ribosomal RNA gene (rDNA) region. Rad27 deficiency leads to the accumulation of Okazaki fragments and changes in rDNA copy number.
