Surface Charge Visualization at Viable Living Cells
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2016Scanning ion conductance microscopy (SICM) is demonstrated to be a powerful technique for quantitative nanoscale surface charge mapping of living cells. Utilizing a bias modulated (BM) scheme, in which the potential between a quasi-reference counter electrode (QRCE) in an electrolyte-filled nanopipette and a QRCE in bulk solution is modulated, it is ...

Cell-surface hydrophobicity and cell-surface charge of Azospirillum spp.
FEMS Microbiology Ecology, 2006The cell-surface charge and cell-surface hydrophobicity of 10 strains of Azospirillum spp. were evaluated by the aqueous, two-polymer phase partitioning assay. Azospirillum spp. had moderate cell-surface hydrophobicity and charge, lower than known values for human pathogens. The hydrophobicity and charge values were higher in solid than in liquid media.

Cell-surface charge and cell-surface hydrophobicity of collagen-bindingAeromonas andVibrio strains
Archives of Microbiology, 1995Partitioning in aqueous polymer two-phase systems of polyethylene glycol and dextran was used to detect and compare cell-surface charge and cell-surface hydrophobicity of Aeromonas hydrophila, A. caviae, A. sobria, Vibrio cholerae, and V. anguillarum strains.

Probing cell surface charge by scanning electrode potential
ELECTROPHORESIS, 2002A static mercury electrode was used for measurement of double-layer charge displacement signals caused by living plant cells of the unicellular marine alga Dunaliella tertiolecta. By scanning the electrode potential a point is reached where the charge density of a plant cell compensates the electrode charge density. The experimentally determined values

Cell surface charge. Correlation of partition with electrophoresis
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1979Critical mixtures of aqueous solutions of polymers separate into two or more immiscible phases. Particulate materials distribute in such phase systems generally between one bulk phase and the interface between bulk phases. The distribution is described by a simple partition law, and is quantitatively determined by, inter alia, the nature of the ...

The Surface Charge of Cells Producing hCG
1984The cell surface is the interface between the cell and its environment. The surface acts to regulate cell function through antigens, receptors, cell-cell interaction, and other factors. One important and measurable property of the cell surface is charge.

Determination of cell surface charge by photometric titration
Journal of Biochemical and Biophysical Methods, 1997A colloid titration method has been frequently used to determine the number of charged residues at the cell surface. Here we present a new version of this technique, based on photometric measurements of a metachromatic shift in the maximum absorption of toluidine blue as it binds to the cell surface.

Decreased Cell Surface Charge in Cystic Fibrosis Epithelia
Cell Biochemistry and Function, 1997A colloid titration technique has been used to determine the surface charge of cystic fibrosis (CF) and corresponding non-CF epithelial cells. We have shown that the negative surface charge of CF epithelial cells is significantly reduced in comparison with non-CF cells.

Cell internalization kinetics and surface charge accessibility of surface-modified PAMAM dendrimers
Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry, 2023The accessibility of surface cationic charges is a key determinant for the cell internalization capacity of surface-modified PAMAM dendrimers with acetyl, folate or poly(ethylene glycol) groups.

Radiation-induced changes on cell surface charges
International Journal of Radiation Applications and Instrumentation. Part C. Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 1987Abstract Upon the effects of ionizing radiations the structure and consequently the function of plasma membranes are perturbed. One of their features, the surface charges of cells are altered, accordingly. More and more techniques are becoming available to study these phenomena, in various regions of a cell.
