How solar cell efficiency is governed by the αμτ product

open access: yesPhysical Review Research, 2020
The interplay of light absorption, charge-carrier transport, and charge-carrier recombination determines the performance of a photovoltaic absorber material.

Electrostatic Surface Properties of Blood and Semen Extracellular Vesicles: Implications of Sialylation and HIV-Induced Changes on EV Internalization

open access: yesViruses, 2020
Although extracellular vesicle (EV) surface electrostatic properties (measured as zeta potential, ζ-potential) have been reported by many investigators, the biophysical implications of charge and EV origin remains uncertain.

STM Studies of TbTe3: Evidence for a fully Incommensurate Charge Density Wave

open access: yes, 2007
We observe unidirectional charge density wave ordering on the cleaved surface of TbTe3 with a Scanning Tunneling Microscope at ~6 K. The modulation wave-vector q_{CDW} as determined by Fourier analysis is 0.71 +/- 0.02 * 2 pi/c.

Adjustment of Coatings Morphology and Particle Distribution of Layered Silicates by Freeze‐Drying for Improved Gas Barriers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Freeze‐drying of layered silicate is the key to get coatings with superior gas barrier. Freeze‐drying of layered silicates modified with dodecylamine (DDA) is a highly effective technique for the preparation of barrier pigments that significantly mitigate the permeation of oxygen, water vapor, and hydrogen through polymer films containing these ...

Single reconstructed Fermi surface pocket in an underdoped single layer cuprate superconductor

open access: yes, 2016
The observation of a reconstructed Fermi surface via quantum oscillations in hole-doped cuprates opened a path towards identifying broken symmetry states in the pseudogap regime.

Is Young's Modulus a Critical Coating Property Determining Fouling‐Release Performance of Marine Coatings?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The release of foulers from protective marine coatings is determined by several interrelated material properties, including the strength of Young's modulus, the flexibility of chain segments, the surface free energy, and the magnitude of hydrodynamic stress.

Duplex Stainless Steel Laser‐Surface Textured: Stability in Brine Solution

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Controlled laser‐surface treatment (LST) of duplex DSS2205 steel is performed to increase its stability in brine solution under cyclic electrochemical assays. The superior protection with respect to flat and smooth panels is attributed to the presence of FeCr2O4 as the main protective oxide layer in the LST surface, after corrosion tests. The stability

The Roles of Nanoparticles in Stem Cell-Based Therapy for Cardiovascular Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2020
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is currently one of the primary causes of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Nanoparticles (NPs) are playing increasingly important roles in regulating stem cell behavior because of their special features, including shape ...

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...
