Long-term cultivation of two diploid epithelial cell lines derived from normal rat liver cells
To obtain a useful rat liver cell line for in vitro carcinogenesis, two rat diploid epithelial cell lines were established from a 7-day-old male rat by the repeated colonial clone method.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

The ErbB2 receptor and breast carcinoma cell migration : memo is a novel mediator of cell motility [PDF]
The ErbB family of receptor tyrosine kinases play important role in normal physiological processes occurring during development; moreover, their deregulated expression has been implicated in human cancer. Cancer patients, whose tumors have alterations in

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

A novel selection regime for differentiation defects demonstrates an essential role for the stumpy form in the life cycle of the African trypanosome [PDF]
A novel selection scheme has been developed to isolate bloodstream forms of Trypanosoma brucei, which are defective in their ability to differentiate to the procyclic stage.

Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

SummaryCell cultures of bovine embryonic lung were found to undergo morphological changes after inoculation with polyoma virus. The changes were characteristic for polyoma transformation with cells having stellate or triangular shape and lying at random, crisscrossing one another.Cell lines of rapidly-growing transformed cells were obtained.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
