Development and Characterization of EST-SSR Markers From RNA-Seq Data in Phyllostachys violascens

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2019
Bamboo are woody grass species containing important economic and ecological values. Lei bamboo (Phyllostachys violascens) is a kind of shoot-producing bamboo species with the highest economic yield per unit area.

Analysis of Host Jejunum Transcriptome and Associated Microbial Community Structure Variation in Young Calves with Feed-Induced Acidosis

open access: yesMetabolites, 2021
Diet-induced acidosis imposes a health risk to young calves. In this study, we aimed to investigate the host jejunum transcriptome changes, along with its microbial community variations, using our established model of feed-induced ruminal acidosis in ...

Over-production of exopolysaccharide by Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus CNCM I-3690 strain cutbacks its beneficial effect on the host

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2023
Most lactobacilli produce extracellular polysaccharides that are considered to contribute to the probiotic effect of many strains. Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus CNCM I-3690 is an anti-inflammatory strain able to counterbalance gut barrier dysfunction.

Characterization of the cell wall and cell wall proteins of Chromatium vinosum [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1980
Highly purified cell walls of Chromatium vinosum were isolated by differential centrifugation, with or without Triton X-100 extraction. The isolated material had a protein composition similar to that of cell walls obtained by sucrose density gradient centrifugation. Twenty-two proteins were reproducibly detected by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide

Deconstructing the Cell Wall [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1994
Any microorganism that attempts to colonize a plant must contend with the cell wall. One of the most conspicuous effects of microorganisms on plant cell walls is enzymic degradation. Our interpretation of the significance of this depends on our concept of the plant cell wall, which, however, is paradoxical.

The Staphylococcal Cell Wall

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2019
ABSTRACT Dating back to the 1960s, initial studies on the staphylococcal cell wall were driven by the need to clarify the mode of action of the first antibiotics and the resistance mechanisms developed by the bacteria. During the following decades, the elucidation of the biosynthetic path and primary composition of staphylococcal cell walls ...

Cell Wall Biology: Perspectives from Cell Wall Imaging [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Plant, 2011
Polysaccharide-rich plant cell walls are important biomaterials that underpin plant growth, are major repositories for photosynthetically accumulated carbon, and, in addition, impact greatly on the human use of plants. Land plant cell walls contain in the region of a dozen major polysaccharide structures that are mostly encompassed by cellulose ...

The Cell Walls of Platymonas [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of General Microbiology, 1958
SUMMARY: Electron micrographs of cell walls of the unicellular green flagellate Platymonas subcordiformis revealed no evidence of a fibrous construction. A preparation of walls was isolated, hydrolysed, and analysed by paper chromatography. The major components indicated were galactose and a uronic acid; glucose was not detected.

Cell wall analysis

open access: yesMethods, 2004
The cell wall is a rigid structure essential for survival of the fungal cell. Because of its absence in mammalian cells, the cell wall is an attractive target for antifungal agents. Thus, for different reasons, it is important to know how the cell wall is synthesized and how different molecules regulate that synthesis.

Sentinels at the wall: cell wall receptors and sensors [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 2007
SummaryThe emerging view of the plant cell wall is of a dynamic and responsive structure that exists as part of a continuum with the plasma membrane and cytoskeleton. This continuum must be responsive and adaptable to normal processes of growth as well as to stresses such as wounding, attack from pathogens and mechanical stimuli.
