Decreased Polysaccharide Feruloylation Compromises Plant Cell Wall Integrity and Increases Susceptibility to Necrotrophic Fungal Pathogens

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2016
The complexity of cell wall composition and structure determines the strength, flexibility, and function of the primary cell wall in plants. However, the contribution of the various components to cell wall integrity and function remains unclear ...

Protein Interactions of the Mechanosensory Proteins Wsc2 and Wsc3 for Stress Resistance in Saccharomyces cerevisiae

open access: yesG3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics, 2020
Antifungal drug discovery and design is very challenging because of the considerable similarities in genetic features and metabolic pathways between fungi and humans. However, cell wall composition represents a notable point of divergence.

Inhibitory effect of carvacrol against Alternaria alternata causing goji fruit rot by disrupting the integrity and composition of cell wall

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
Goji (Lycium barbarum L.) is a widely planted crop in China that is easily infected by the pathogenic fungus Alternaria alternata, which causes rot after harvest. Previous studies showed that carvacrol (CVR) significantly inhibited the mycelial growth of

Class A Penicillin-Binding Protein-Mediated Cell Wall Synthesis Promotes Structural Integrity during Peptidoglycan Endopeptidase Insufficiency in Vibrio cholerae

open access: yesmBio, 2021
Synthesis and turnover of the bacterial cell wall must be tightly coordinated to avoid structural integrity failure and cell death. Details of this coordination are poorly understood, particularly if and how cell wall turnover enzymes are required for ...

Cell Wall Integrity Signaling inSaccharomyces cerevisiae [PDF]

open access: yesMicrobiology and Molecular Biology Reviews, 2005
SUMMARYThe yeast cell wall is a highly dynamic structure that is responsible for protecting the cell from rapid changes in external osmotic potential. The wall is also critical for cell expansion during growth and morphogenesis. This review discusses recent advances in understanding the various signal transduction pathways that allow cells to monitor ...

Cell Wall Integrity Controls Expression of Endoxyloglucan Transferase in Tobacco BY2 Cells [PDF]

open access: yesPlant and Cell Physiology, 2001
Plant cells can monitor alternations in cell wall architecture. Treatment of tobacco BY2 cells with a cellulase or cellulose biosynthesis inhibitor significantly decreased the mRNA of endoxyloglucan transferase (EXGT). Our results indicated the importance of another gene(s) induced by cell wall defects for the decrease in EXGT mRNA.

Cracking the green wall code: insights into cell wall integrity across organisms

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Physiology, 2023
Cell walls are not just passive barriers; they are dynamic and adaptable structures that are actively remodeled in response to both internal and external cues. They are crucial in defining cellular identity, ensuring structural integrity, and mediating interactions with the environment.

Participation of Candida albicans transcription factor RLM1 in cell wall biogenesis and virulence. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
Candida albicans cell wall is important for growth and interaction with the environment. RLM1 is one of the putative transcription factors involved in the cell wall integrity pathway, which plays an important role in the maintenance of the cell wall ...

Outside‐in control – does plant cell wall integrity regulate cell cycle progression? [PDF]

open access: yesPhysiologia Plantarum, 2018
During recent years it has become accepted that plant cell walls are not inert objects surrounding all plant cells but are instead highly dynamic, plastic structures. They are involved in a large number of cell biological processes and contribute actively to plant growth, development and interaction with environment.

Plant cell wall integrity maintenance as an essential component of biotic stress response mechanisms

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2012
Plant cell walls provide structural support during development and represent the first line of defense against biotic and abiotic stress. In recent years evidence has accumulated that a dedicated plant cell wall integrity maintenance mechanism exists ...
