miR-1/206 downregulates splicing factor Srsf9 to promote C2C12 differentiation
Background Myogenesis is driven by specific changes in the transcriptome that occur during the different stages of muscle differentiation. In addition to controlled transcriptional transitions, several other post-transcriptional mechanisms direct muscle ...

Gene and library synthesis without amplification: polymerase step reaction (PSR)
Current gene synthesis methods often incorporate a PCR amplification step in order to yield final material sufficient for resolution from multiple off-products. These amplification steps can cause stochastic sampling effects that propagate errors in gene

This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

"Riding with the Wnt": Investigating the role of Wnt signaling in cell migration
During my PhD, my goal was to achieve a better understanding of how animals develop from embryogenesis to adulthood. Specifically, I studied how cells acquire and control their movement to sculpt the final shape of an organism.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Identification of novel factors that promote spindle positioning in the C. elegans embryo
LIN-5, GPR-1/2, and the Ga proteins GOA-1 and GPA-16, have previously been identified as key regulators of spindle positioning. In this thesis we identified other components that contribute to the different spindle and nuclear positioning events in the ...

An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
