Early Warning Signals for Critical Transitions in Sandpile Cellular Automata
The sandpile cellular automata, despite the simplicity of their basic rules, are adequate mathematical models of real-world systems, primarily open nonlinear systems capable to self-organize into the critical state.

A Family of Controllable Cellular Automata for Pseudorandom Number Generation
In this paper, we present a family of novel Pseudorandom Number Generators (PRNGs) based on Controllable Cellular Automata (CCA) ─ CCA0, CCA1, CCA2 (NCA), CCA3 (BCA), CCA4 (asymmetric NCA), CCA5, CCA6 and CCA7 PRNGs.

A transformation sequencing approach to pseudorandom number generation [PDF]
This paper presents a new approach to designing pseudorandom number generators based on cellular automata. Current cellular automata designs either focus on i) ensuring desirable sequence properties such as maximum length period, balanced distribution ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Asynchronous adaptive time step in quantitative cellular automata modeling
Background The behaviors of cells in metazoans are context dependent, thus large-scale multi-cellular modeling is often necessary, for which cellular automata are natural candidates.

Cellular Automata are Generic [PDF]
Any algorithm (in the sense of Gurevich's abstract-state-machine axiomatization of classical algorithms) operating over any arbitrary unordered domain can be simulated by a dynamic cellular automaton, that is, by a pattern-directed cellular automaton ...

Von Neumann Regularity, Split Epicness and Elementary Cellular Automata [PDF]
We show that a cellular automaton on a mixing subshift of finite type is a von Neumann regular element in the semigroup of cellular automata if and only if it is split epic onto its image in the category of sofic shifts and block maps. It follows from [S.
