On the hexagonal structure of cellular flames
Canadian Journal of Physics, 1990The effect of hexagonal pattern formation in steady spherical flames is studied both analytically and numerically. It is shown that the hexagonal cells emerge as a subcritical bifurcation from the basic state provided the flame radius exceeds a certain critical value.

Diffusional-Thermal Theory of Cellular Flames
Combustion Science and Technology, 1977abstract It is shown that the formation of cellular structure in a flame is conditioned by diffusion and heat conduction effects and is independent of the hydrodynamics of the perturbed flame. It is proved that cellular flames are formed only when a sufficiently light reactant of the combustible mixture is present in a low concentration. If there is an

Experimental Investigation of Premixed Cellular Tubular Flames
50th AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting including the New Horizons Forum and Aerospace Exposition, 2012Two dimensionally spatially resolved structural measurements are reported for cellular phenomena in lean laminar premixed hydrogen-air tubular flames. Laser-induced Raman scattering and chemiluminescence imaging are combined to investigate low Lewis number lean hydrogen-air flames.

Expanding Flames May Delay the Transition to Cellular Structures
SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, 1984We derive a general equation for the evolution of flame fronts in weakly nonuniform flows. The equation is restricted to a particular range of Lewis numbers and describes the transition to cellular structures. This transition is analyzed for an expanding curved flame.

The characteristics of four ratcheting states in cellular flames
Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2009A premixed flat flame on a circular porous plug burner can form patterns of one or two concentric rings of cells in which brighter, hotter regions are separated by darker, cooler cusps and folds. Dynamic states are found at parameter values that are interleaved between those of the ordered states.

Cellular flame structure and turbulent combustion
Combustion, Explosion, and Shock Waves, 1982Knowledge of flame interaction with perturbation of the surrounding medium is insufficient. This study investigates various parameters and methods for clarifying the combustion mechanism. The conditions for the appearance of a cellular structure were formed by analysis of diffusion phenomenon.

Cellular and sporadic flame regimes of low-Lewis-number stretched premixed flames
Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2013Abstract 3D structure and dynamical behavior of low-Lewis-number stretched premixed flames are numerically simulated within the framework of a thermo-diffusive model with one-step chemical reaction. The results are compared with microgravity experiments at qualitative level. The influence of Lewis number, equivalence ratio, and heat loss intensity on

Total Cellular Ca2+ Measurements in Yeast Using Flame Photometry
Cold Spring Harbor Protocols, 2015A photoelectric flame photometer is a device used in inorganic chemical analysis for determining the concentrations of certain metals in solution. It does this by measuring the intensity of the light emitted by the metal when the solution is sprayed under controlled conditions into a nonluminous flame.
