Acid Sulfate Soils and Their Impact on Surface Water Quality: A Case Study in Southeast Brazil

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Soil Science, Volume 76, Issue 3, May–June 2025.
ABSTRACT Re‐flooding of previously drained and oxidised acid sulfate soils (ASSs) can stimulate reduction processes while decreasing soil acidity, thereby mitigating the harmful effects of acidity. The aim of this study is to explore the pedogenesis of ASSs in a tropical climate and to assess the impact of ASS on surface water quality at the end of the

Mineralogical Changes in Acid Sulfate Soils With Thionic Horizons: Insights From the Delta Doce River, Brazil

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Soil Science, Volume 76, Issue 2, March–April 2025.
ABSTRACT Acid sulfate soils (ASS) with sulfide minerals (i.e., contain sulfidic materials) are widely distributed in both coastal and inland regions, and if exposed to air, the oxidation of sulfide minerals results in the production of sulfuric acid with the formation of thionic horizons (pH < 4) along with profound mineralogical changes.

Efficiency of Sequential Extraction Schemes in Partitioning Toxic Elements in Acid Sulfate Soils With a Thionic Horizon

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Soil Science, Volume 76, Issue 2, March–April 2025.
ABSTRACT The use of sequential extraction methods is a common practice for analysing the availability of potentially toxic elements in soils and sediments. However, the simultaneous presence of oxidisable and reducible minerals in acid sulfate soils with a thionic horizon raises questions about the accuracy of these methods.

Anatomia quantitativa da folha e do colmo de Brachiaria brizantha (Hochst. ex A. Rich.) Stapf e B. humidicola (Rendle) Schweick Quantitative anatomy of leaves and stems of Brachiaria brizantha (Hochst. ex A. Rich.) Stapf and B. humidicola (Rendle) Schweick

Ownership, institutions, and the agency of M&A completion

open access: yesGlobal Strategy Journal, Volume 15, Issue 1, Page 153-183, February 2025.
Abstract Research Summary In this paper, we study how variations in debt and equity ownership and the institutions that govern interactions between different types of principals and agents affect the completion likelihood of acquisitions. Using a sample of 55,722 acquisitions, our study finds that risk‐averse debtholders reduce the completion ...

Phylogenetic conservatism in the relationship between functional and demographic characteristics in Amazon tree taxa

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 39, Issue 1, Page 181-198, January 2025.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Leaf and wood functional traits of trees are related to growth, reproduction, and survival, but the degree of phylogenetic conservatism in these relationships is largely unknown.

Aplicação de silicatos de cálcio e de potássio e o crescimento de mudas de Eucalyptus grandis

open access: yesPesquisa Florestal Brasileira, 2011
O uso de silicato é uma prática que vem sendo adotada com frequência em culturas anuais, muito embora poucos trabalhos tenham sido realizados com intuito de verificar sua eficiência em espécies florestais arbóreas. O objetivo principal desta pesquisa foi

Template‐Free ZSM‐5 Synthesis Using Bio‐Sourced Waste Materials

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Inorganic Chemistry, Volume 27, Issue 34, December 2, 2024.
Hydrochars from lignocellulosic waste were added to ZSM‐5 OSDA‐free synthesis. These bio‐sourced materials mediated the ZSM‐5 crystals aggregation during their synthesis. Thus, morphology and acidity changed due to the presence of hydrochars. Brønsted and Lewis acid sites were specially increased.
