Early-age monitoring of fresh cementitious material by acoustic emission [PDF]
Concrete properties are mainly affected by the fresh state since it has a significant impact on the long-term concrete performance. In this study, acoustic emission (AE) was applied to monitor the behavior of fresh cement paste.

Theory of Sorption Hysteresis in Nanoporous Solids: II. Molecular condensation
Motivated by the puzzle of sorption hysteresis in Portland cement concrete or cement paste, we develop in Part II of this study a general theory of vapor sorption and desorption from nanoporous solids, which attributes hysteresis to hindered molecular ...

Use of a continuous-flow bioreactor to evaluate nitrate reduction rate of Halomonas desiderata in cementitious environment relevant to nuclear waste deep repository [PDF]
The redox level of repositories can influence the mobility of the waste components stored in them (i.e. radionuclides) and thus the related safety assessments.

Abstract Background Bananas (Musa species) are an important staple food and cash crop in many parts of the world. The East African Highland cooking bananas form the backbone of food security for millions of Ugandans. The demand for high quality cooking bananas is thus closely linked to their sensory characteristics (which drive consumer preference) and

THERMAL PRESSURIZATION AND ANOMALOUS THERMAL EXPANSION OF THE PORE FLUID OF A HARDENED CEMENT PASTE [PDF]
International audienceTemperature increase in a fluid-saturated porous material in undrained condition leads to pore pressure increase. This phenomenon of thermal pressurization is studied experimentally for a saturated hardened cement paste.

Residual capability of alkali binding by hydrated pozzolanic cements in long-service concrete structures [PDF]
An experimental procedure was developed and applied to cement pastes made with two different pozzolanic cements (CEM IV/B (P) and CEM IV/B (V)) in order to ascertain the existence of a residual capability of alkali binding by long-term hydrated ...

A Hero's Journey to Systemic Change: Developing Expertise in Agricultural Development
ABSTRACT Experts in rural development and agrarian change wield considerable influence over programme design and delivery, directing resources and shaping trajectories towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Yet the pathways through which such expertise develops remain under‐examined. This study examines the journey to expertise among experts
