Clinical Significance of PD‐L1 and HLA Expression in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Response to Immunotherapy

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study evaluated immune‐related biomarkers in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors after postoperative recurrence. PD‐L1 expression in tumor‐associated macrophages and tumor cells, together with HLA class I downregulation and HLA‐DR expression, were associated with favorable responses to immunotherapy.

Human‐in‐the‐Loop Swarms: A Bionic Swarm Approach to Real‐World Soil Mapping

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This article introduces the “Bionic Swarm,” a novel system that lowers the barriers to real‐world swarm validation by abstracting difficult hardware tasks to app‐guided human agents. We demonstrate the system's utility through the experimental validation of a geotechnical soil‐mapping swarm algorithm and show superior performance to baseline approaches

Symmetric Double Normal Models for Censored, Bounded, and Survival Data: Theory, Estimation, and Applications

open access: yesMathematics
We develop a unified likelihood-based framework for limited outcomes built on the two-piece normal family. The framework includes a censored specification that accommodates boundary inflation, a doubly truncated specification on (0,1) for rates and ...

The role of venture‐financed startups in innovation for US agriculture

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract To evaluate the role played by startup companies in the innovation ecosystem of US agriculture, we compile a unique dataset of 6024 new entrants founded 1987–2019 that details their financing lifecycles, annual economic performance, and patenting activities.

Determinants of Long‐Term Benefit From High Dose Melphalan With Autologous Stem Cell Transplant in AL Amyloidosis

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT High dose melphalan (HDM) with autologous stem cell transplant is an established treatment for systemic light chain amyloidosis, but its incremental benefit in the era of effective standard intensity therapy is unknown. We retrospectively analyzed 475 transplant‐eligible patients who completed standard intensity treatment with or without HDM ...

Efficient Probabilistic Modelling of Corrosion Initiation in RC Structures Considering Non-Diffusive Barriers and Censored Data

open access: yesBuildings
This article presents a probabilistic methodology for assessing corrosion initiation in reinforced concrete structures exposed to chloride ingress. The approach addresses key limitations of conventional analytical models by accounting for non-diffusive ...

Estimating Derivatives in Nonseparable Models with Limited Dependent Variables [PDF]

open access: yes
We present a simple way to estimate the effects of changes in a vector of observable variables X on a limited dependent variable Y when Y is a general nonseparable function of X and unobservables, and X is independent of the unobservables.

Clinically Relevant Bleeding in Individuals With Cancer: Insights From a Nationwide Cohort Study

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cancer care is often complicated by coagulopathy leading to thrombosis and bleeding. While venous thromboembolism (VTE) has been extensively studied, bleeding remains an underestimated threat. To address this knowledge gap, we leveraged the Epic Cosmos database to determine the impact of cancer‐associated clinically relevant bleeding (CRB) in ...

Prognostic significance of tumor microenvironment assessed by machine learning algorithm in surgically resected non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesCancer Reports, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract Background A methodology to assess the immune microenvironment (IME) of non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has not been established, and the prognostic impact of IME factors is not yet clear. Aims This study aimed to assess the IME factors and evaluate their prognostic values. Methods and Results We assessed CD8+ tumor‐infiltrating lymphocyte (

Advanced Copula-Based Models for Type II Censored Data: Applications in Industrial and Medical Settings

open access: yesMathematics
Copula models are increasingly recognized for their ability to capture complex dependencies among random variables. In this study, we introduce three innovative bivariate models utilizing copula functions: the XLindley (XL) distribution with Frank ...
