Microstructural and histochemical analysis of aboveground organs of Centaurea cyanus used in herbal medicine

open access: yesProtoplasma, 2019
Centaurea cyanus L. is a valuable source of many different bioactive substances. It is used in herbal medicine, but the structure of its organs used as raw material and secretory tissues has been insufficiently examined.

Plant identity determines pollinator, natural enemy, herbivore, and decomposer abundances in flower plantings

open access: yesEcosphere, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Flower plantings in agricultural landscapes can contribute to sustainable crop production by enhancing pollination and biological control services. However, selecting plant species that promote multiple ecosystem services is challenging, since plants that favor pollinators may not equally foster natural enemies, and potential trade‐offs, such ...

The Soil Erosion Paradox Re‐Examined: Alluviation and Land Use History in a Small British Lowland River Catchment in the Late Holocene

open access: yesGeoarchaeology, Volume 41, Issue 1, January/February 2026.
ABSTRACT Modern studies show that soil erosion results in a loss of ecosystem function, particularly fertility, and is a cause of declining agricultural yields. However, despite the well‐attested high rates of soil erosion across Roman and medieval Europe there appears to have been little or no soil‐associated decline in agricultural production—the ...

Plant structural complexity and mechanical defenses mediate predator-prey interactions in an odonate-bird system. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Habitat-forming species provide refuges for a variety of associating species; these refuges may mediate interactions between species differently depending on the functional traits of the habitat-forming species.

The local paleoenvironment of Kalavan‐2 based on small‐vertebrate remains and its implications for human‐environment‐dynamics between 60 and 35 ka in the Armenian Highlands

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, Volume 41, Issue 1, Page 153-177, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Kalavan‐2, a high‐altitude (∼1640 m a.s.l.) open‐air site in Armenia, preserves stratified Middle Paleolithic occupations with a rich small‐vertebrate record. Luminescence dating has placed site formation between ~60 and 45 ka, but without independent chronological control of the microvertebrate accumulation.

Conservation monitoring of three management treatments for public understanding of meadow management [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper the declining habitat of flower-rich grassland on neutral soil (MG5a) is used as an example to show how non-classical ecological experiments set in a real-life situations can provide answers to practical questions and thus contribute ...
