Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

On the meaning of central bank independence

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Economic and Management Sciences, 1998
This article aims to clarify the meaning of the multifaceted term central bank independence. Such independence cannot be understood in an absolute sense, because the elected government in a democratic society remains the highest authority in respect of ...

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Inflation Performance and Constitutional Central Bank Independence. Evidence from Latin America and the Caribbean [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper explores the relationship between the constitutional entrenchment of central bank independence and inflation performance. Empirical studies for developing countries have not found a relationship between central bank independence, proxied by ...

Suppression of lung adenocarcinoma migration through organelle alkalization by human lactoferrin – albumin fusion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Central banks - independent or almighty? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Historically Central Bank Independence (CBI) was anything but the norm. CBI seems to contradict core principles of democracy. Most economists were also against CBI. After the Great Inflation of the 1970ies many empirical studies demonstrated that there is a strong negative correlation between the degree of CBI and the rate of inflation.

Crucial issues concerning central bank independence [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Monetary Economics, 1997
Abstract This paper argues, first, that it is inappropriate to presume that central banks will, in the absence of any tangible precommitment technology, inevitably behave in a ‘discretionary’ fashion that implies an inflationary bias. Furthermore, there is no necessary tradeoff between ‘flexibility and commitment’.
