Central Diabetes Insipidus

American Journal of Diseases of Children, 1986
The etiology of diabetes insipidus (DI) was determined in 73 children evaluated from 1962 through 1983. Intracranial tumors produced DI in 34 children, but 27 of these 34 children developed DI only after excision of the tumor. Diabetes insipidus occurred in ten children with intracranial birth defects, eight with severe central nervous system ...

Management of central diabetes insipidus

Best Practice & Research Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 2020
The treatment of central diabetes insipidus has not changed significantly in recent decades, and dDAVP and replacement of free water deficit remain the cornerstones of treatment. Oral dDAVP has replaced nasal dDAVP as a more reliable mode of treatment for chronic central diabetes insipidus.

Neuroimaging of central diabetes insipidus

2021
Central diabetes insipidus (CDI) occurs secondary to deficient synthesis or secretion of arginine vasopressin peptide from the hypothalamo-neurohypophyseal system (HNS). It is characterized by polydipsia and polyuria (urine output >30mL/kg/day in adults and >2l/m2/24h in children) of dilute urine (

Neurophysins in Central Diabetes insipidus

Hormone Research, 1996
When they were discovered by Acher and co-workers, neurophysins were thought to act as carriers for the active nonapeptides vasopressin (AVP) and oxytocin (OT) and were then recognized as the inactive fragment of a precursor with a higher molecular weight (propressophysin).

Central diabetes insipidus following intraventricular hemorrhage

The Journal of Pediatrics, 1976
NEUROGENIC DIABETES INSIPIDUS is an entity infrequently recognized in the neonatal period. The true incidence is unknown. Fenton and Kleinman 1 described such a case associated with Listeria monocytogenes sepsis and intravascular coagulopathy. The following report describes a case of vasopressin sensitive diabetes insipidus in a premature infant ...

Intracranial calcification in central diabetes insipidus

Pediatric Radiology, 2007
Intracranial calcification is a known but extremely rare complication of diabetes insipidus. To date, only 16 patients have been reported and all had the peripheral (nephrogenic) type of diabetes insipidus. We report a child with intracranial calcification complicating central diabetes insipidus.

Central diabetes insipidus due to sarcoidosis.

Sarcoidosis, vasculitis, and diffuse lung diseases : official journal of WASOG, 2017
We describe a case of a 40-year old Caucasian male who presented with bihilar enlargement. Additional investigation revealed sarcoidosis. During hospitalization patient developed hypernatremia due to central diabetes insipidus. Central diabetes insipidus was caused by neurosarcoidosis.

Central diabetes insipidus in children.

Acta Endocrinologica, 1987
Abstract. The antidiuretic effect and pharmacokinetics of 10 to 20 μg of intranasal (IN) and 200 to 400 μg of oral (po) 1-deamino-8-D-arginine vasopressin (DDAVP) were studied in 10 paediatric diabetes insipidus patients. A significant increase in urine osmolality was obtained with all doses, maximum within 2 h and still present at 8 h.

Prenatal presentation of transient central diabetes insipidus

European Journal of Pediatrics, 2010
Nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (DI) in the foetus has been described as a rare presentation of severe polyhydramnios. We report a case of foetal central DI, characterised by severe polyhydramnios. Significant polyuria was noted at birth. Serum AVP level was un-measurable (
