Fast-tracking for total knee replacement reduces use of institutional care without compromising quality

open access: yesActa Orthopaedica, 2018
Background and purpose — Fast-tracking shortens the length of the primary treatment period (length of stay, LOS) after total knee replacement (TKR). We evaluated the influence of the fast-track concept on the length of uninterrupted institutional care ...

Distributed Micropneumatic Sensors for Soft Robots to Detect Touch and Pose

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Soft robots need integrated touch and pose sensing for safe and reliable operation. This work presents a three‐fingered soft gripper with 18 micropneumatic sensors made from the same materials as its pneumatic actuators. By measuring airflow resistance changes in deforming microchannels of the sensors, finger pose and contact are detected, enabling ...

Integrating Genetics With Epidemiological Measurements Identifies Burden QTLs of Inflammatory Bowel Disease across 20 Countries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The burden quantitative trait locus (bQTL) analysis integrates epidemiological data from GBD study with genotype of 2 621 978 SNPs from 2414 individuals in 1000 Genomes Project across 20 countries. rs7633471 shows the strongest effect that each increase in centi‐allele frequency of the allele C associated with 10.00 decrease of age‐standardized ...

Charting Endocrine Progenitors Across Species and Organs

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Endocrine progenitors give rise to the hormone‐producing cells of the pancreas and intestine. Using single‐cell multiomics and proteomics, this study compares these progenitors across species, systems, and organs, mapping the conserved and species‐specific gene regulatory networks that guide their formation.

GHRHR Deficiency Enhances Retinal Ganglion Cell Survival and Visual Functions in Experimental Glaucoma by Inhibiting Ferroptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glaucoma, a major cause of blindness, involves retinal ganglion cell (RGC) degeneration. This study shows growth hormone‐releasing hormone receptor (GHRHR) deficiency preserves RGC survival and restores vision, unlike activation which only aids survival.

Safety and feasibility of the treatment of calcified de novo coronary artery lesions with drug-coated balloon angioplasty after intravascular lithotripsy

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine
ObjectivesPercutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of calcified lesions using stenting may lead to stent malapposition and stent underexpansion. The combination of intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) followed by drug-coated balloon (DCB) treatment may help ...
