Parenteral nutrition and hospital outcomes in Australian adults: A descriptive cohort study

open access: yesJournal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, Volume 50, Issue 7, Page 1003-1013, October 2026.
Abstract Background There is limited information regarding real‐world use of parenteral nutrition in hospitals. The objective of the study was to provide a real‐world description of parenteral nutrition administration in hospitalized patients. Emergence of a Novel, Phenotypically Difficult‐to‐Detect Vancomycin‐Resistant Enterococcus faecium Clone (ST117/CT7799)

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
A newly emerged vanB‐VREfm clone (ST117/CT7799) causes an ongoing outbreak in southeastern Austria. The cluster is highly homogenous, even for isolates sampled months apart. Resistance is easily missed via disk diffusion, gradient tests, and microdilution. VITEK 2 testing reliably detects vancomycin‐resistance.

Driving Drugs Deeper: Force‐Driven Microneedle Systems for Active Therapy and Their Road Towards Clinical Implementation

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 55, 1 October 2026.
Force‐driven microneedles are presented as active therapeutic microdevices that overcome the diffusion limits of conventional patches. By integrating gas generation, magnetic actuation, cavitation, or iontophoresis, these systems drive payloads deeper into tissue, enabling faster, more controlled delivery and highlighting key design principles and ...

Maternal Perinatal Gut Microbiome Is Shaped by Traditional Farming Lifestyle and Associated With Early Childhood Atopic Disease

open access: yesAllergy, Volume 81, Issue 10, Page 3707-3724, October 2026.
We assessed whether the maternal perinatal gut microbiome and serum SCFA and cord blood SCFA differ between traditional farming and urban dyads. Women following a farming lifestyle had increased microbial diversity, several differentially abundant bacterial species and functional pathways, and increased circulating SCFA. Overall maternal gut microbiome
