Miocene vegetation and climate dynamics in Eastern and Central Paratethys (Southeastern Europe)

Palaeogeography, Palaeoclimatology, Palaeoecology, 2011
Abstract From the Cretaceous to modern time the earth's climate system has changed repeatedly from a greenhouse to an icehouse. The Miocene appeared as the last warm episode in earth history, prior to the establishment of large Northern Hemisphere ice sheets.

Integrated stratigraphy of the Sarmatian (Upper Middle Miocene) in the western Central Paratethys

Stratigraphy, 2004
The Vienna Basin and the Styrian Basin have been cornerstones for the definition and description of the Central Euro-pean Sarmatian Stage. New inter-and intrabasin correlations of well-logs and surface outcrops reveal a rather uniform development of depositional systems in all considered basins, which excludes local autocyclic processes as the sole ...

Marine shelled Heterobranchia in part (Gastropoda) of the Miocene Central Paratethys Sea

Zootaxa
We present a revision of the Early and Middle Miocene marine heterobranchs from the European Central Paratethys Sea. We document a surprisingly high diversity of 83 species of which 32 species are described as new species. As shown by many other gastropod families, discussed in previous papers of this series, maximum diversity occurred during the ...

Miocene Carbonate Platforms in the Polish Carpathians (Central Paratethys). Foraminiferal record

Géologie Méditerranéenne, 1994
The Neogene in Central Paratethys was the period when flysch deposition was replaced by that of molasse in both the Carpathian foldbelt and its foredeep. The sedimentation processes were coeval, closely relevant with tectonic phases of the Carpathian orogen evo¬ lution.

Long-lived brackish water lake in the Central Paratethys backyard

2017
Along Mt. Požeška, an inselberg in NE Croatia, the continental Lower to Middle Miocene deposits are widespread. These deposits are present in many outcrops, sections and boreholes, always underlying the Middle Miocene marine series. The present locality provides insight to fossil assemblages and depositional environments of the Mt. Požeška paleolake.

The Styrian Basin: A key to the Middle Miocene (Badenian/Langhian) Central Paratethys transgressions

2009

The problem of locating the south-western boundary of the Central Paratethys bioprovince

2002
Small Neogene basins within the Dinarides were never flooded by marine transgressions during their evolution. Fresh-water sedimentation, endemic fauna and their position between the Adriatic region and the Pannonian Basin System is the reason that these basin have not previously been considered asparts of the Mediterranean or Central Paratethys ...
