Miniaturized Devices for On‐the‐Spot Generation of Small‐Diameter Vascular Grafts

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
An intracorporeal extrusion device is developed for on‐the‐spot generation of vascular grafts with tunable diameters spanning from 1 to 6 mm. The device uses biomimetic polymers and light, to promptly obtaining biocompatible and high‐burst pressure‐resistant grafts.

Hydrodynamics of catheter biofilm formation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
A hydrodynamic model is proposed to describe one of the most critical problems in intensive medical care units: the formation of biofilms inside central venous catheters. The incorporation of approximate solutions for the flow-limited diffusion equation leads to the conclusion that biofilms grow on the internal catheter wall due to the counter-stream ...

Autonomous Stabilization of Retinal Videos for Streamlining Assessment of Spontaneous Venous Pulsations [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Spontaneous retinal Venous Pulsations (SVP) are rhythmic changes in the caliber of the central retinal vein and are observed in the optic disc region (ODR) of the retina. Its absence is a critical indicator of various ocular or neurological abnormalities.

Evaluation of a continuous blood glucose monitoring system using a central venous catheter with an integrated microdialysis function.

open access: yesDiabetes Technology & Therapeutics, 2013
INTRODUCTION Glycemic control in critically ill patients has been the topic of an interesting debate during the last decade. An accurate continuous glucose monitoring system is essential to better understand this field.

Anisotropic Surface Microrollers for Endovascular Navigation: A Computational Analysis with a Case Study in Hepatic Perfusion

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
Computational fluid dynamics analyses assess the upstream locomotion performance of anisotropic microrollers with varying height‐to‐width ratios. Observing their successful upstream locomotion in veins, their performance in hepatic circulation is investigated for treating primary liver cancer.

Silver catalyzed Fluorouracil degradation; a promising new role for graphene [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
Chemotherapy treatment usually involves the delivery of fluorouracil (5-Fu) together with other drugs through central venous catheters. Catheters and their connectors are increasingly coated (or impregnated) with silver or argentic alloys/compounds.

Multiperspective Conformance Analysis of Central Venous Catheter Installation Procedure [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Training and practice play a key role in a medical students' attainment of surgical procedural skills. It is beyond doubt that good skills correlate with better clinical outcomes and improved healthcare. Timely, holistic, and effective feedback provide a significant impetus to students acquiring skills with precision.

Magnetic Resonance Elastography and Portal Hypertension: Influence of the Portal Venous Flow on the Liver Stiffness [PDF]

open access: yesStem Cells and Regenerative Medicine -- the 9th International Europe-China Symposium, Strasbourg 2-4 Oct 2019, In press, 2020
The invasive measurement of the hepatic venous pressure gradient is still considered as the reference method to assess the severity of portal hypertension. Even though previous studies have shown that the liver stiffness measured by elastography could predict portal hypertension in patients with chronic liver disease, the mechanisms behind remain today

Bacteriophage K for reduction of Staphylococcus aureusbiofilm on central venous catheter material

open access: yesBacteriophage, 2013
The purpose of this project was to determine whether bacteriophage can reduce bacterial colonization and biofilm formation on central venous catheter material.
