The Optimization of Density Gradients for Zonal Centrifugation

Separation Science, 1969
Abstract By using established equations and techniques, it is possible to compute sucrose gradients which are optimized to minimize volume expansion of a zone during sedimentation in zonal rotors. These gradients have been tested experimentally, and it has been found that the greatest expansion of the sample zone occurred during the early stage of ...

An analysis of eukaryotic genomes by density gradient centrifugation

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1976
DNA preparations from 25 eukaryotes, ranging from yeast to man, were analyzed in their base composition, sedimentation coefficient, modal and mean buoyant density in CsCl. Four mammalian and two amphibian DNAs were fractionated by preparative Cs 2 SO 4 −Ag + density gradient centrifugation. The CsCl band profile of each fraction was analyzed in terms

Isolation of Mammalian Peroxisomes by Density Gradient Centrifugation

2023
Sophisticated organelle fractionation strategies were the workhorse of early peroxisome research and led to the characterization of the principal functions of the organelle. However, even in the era of molecular biology and "omics" technologies, they are still of importance to unravel peroxisome-specific proteomes, confirm the localization of still ...

Photometric scanning of centrifuged density gradient columns

Analytical Biochemistry, 1963
Abstract Results obtained with an apparatus for recording the ultraviolet absorbance at all depths in a centrifuged density gradient column and for collecting consecutive samples are presented. A heavy sucrose solution is forced from a motor-driven syringe into the bottom of a gradient column.

Density gradient centrifugations of adenovirus-antibody complexes

Archiv fr die gesamte Virusforschung, 1965
Buoyant density sedimentations in CsCl of adenovirus type 5 and virus-antibody complexes has been described. It has been demonstrated that virus which survives a certain dose of antibody is found at densities lower than that of untreated particles suggesting a coating of the virus with antibody.

Isolation of Endocitic Organelles by Density Gradient Centrifugation

2008
Advanced prefractionation strategies, in combination with highly sensitive and accurate mass spectrometers provide powerful means to detect and analyze low abundant proteins on the subcellular and organelle-specific level. Among enrichment techniques, subcellular fractionation has become the most commonly used.

The Isolation of Satellite DNA by Density Gradient Centrifugation

2003
The term satellite DNA is used for a DNA component that gives a sharp band in a density gradient and can be resolved from the broader main band of DNA in the gradient. The usual gradient material is CsCl in aqueous buffer and the Cs(+) ions form a density gradient in a centrifugal field. DNA in the solution sediments to its isopycnic point. The density

Preparation of polyallomer centrifuge tubes for density gradients

Analytical Biochemistry, 1969
Abstract Thin-walled polyallomer centrifuge tubes can easily be prepared to accept linear sucrose gradients, as delivered by conventional gradient formers. They can thus be used with the same facility and achieve the same resolution as cellulose nitrate tubes, for preparative and analytical density gradient centrifugation.

Isolation of bovine eosinophils by density gradient centrifugation

American Journal of Veterinary Research, 1985
SUMMARY A method for the isolation of an enriched population (> 60%) of bovine eosinophils was developed, using density gradient centrifugation. Eosinophils were isolated from peripheral blood by centrifugation on a density gradient medium of sp gr 1.092.
