Interrogation of fibre Bragg gratings through a fibre optic rotary joint on a geotechnical centrifuge [PDF]
The monitoring of an array of fibre Bragg gratings (FBGs) strain sensors was performed through a single channel, single mode fibre optic rotary joint (FORJ) mounted on a geotechnical centrifuge.

Explanation for twin tunnelling-induced surface settlements by changes in soil stiffness on account of stress history [PDF]
In this article, a group of representative centrifuge tests were selected for numerical modelling to explain the surface settlements induced by sequential twin tunnelling.

Prediction of vertical bearing capacity of waveform micropile [PDF]
This study proposes a predictive equation for bearing capacity considering the behaviour characteristics of a waveform micropile that can enhance the bearing capacity of a conventional micropile.

Waves in the gas centrifuge: asymptotic theory and similarities with the atmosphere [PDF]
We study the stratified gas in a rapidly rotating centrifuge as a model for the Earth's atmosphere. Based on methods of perturbation theory, it is shown that in certain regimes, internal waves in the gas centrifuge have the same dispersion relation to leading order as their atmospheric siblings.

Lab-in-a-Tube: A portable imaging spectrophotometer for cost-effective, high-throughput, and label-free analysis of centrifugation processes [PDF]
Centrifuges serve as essential instruments in modern experimental sciences, facilitating a wide range of routine sample processing tasks that necessitate material sedimentation. However, the study for real time observation of the dynamical process during centrifugation has remained elusive.

Motility fractionation of bacteria by centrifugation [PDF]
Centrifugation is a widespread laboratory technique used to separate mixtures into fractions characterized by a specific size, weight or density. We demonstrate that centrifugation can be also used to separate swimming cells having different motility.

The Upper Limit of the Separation Efficiency of a Gas Centrifuge [PDF]
A general theory of isotopes separation in a gas centrifuge based on a radial averaging method has been developed. The ultimate upper limit for a centrifuge separative power is expressed as a function of its external parameters.

Controlled enantioselective orientation of chiral molecules with an optical centrifuge [PDF]
We report on the first experimental demonstration of enantioselective rotational control of chiral molecules with a laser field. In our experiments, two enantiomers of propylene oxide are brought to accelerated unidirectional rotation by means of an optical centrifuge.

Effects of chronic browsing on life‐history traits of an irruptive large herbivore population
This study aimed to determine the relationship between diet quality, body mass, and size (hind foot length), and female reproduction and sought to identify the mechanism by which high density under severe food limitations is maintained. Our results demonstrated that sika deer introduced to Nakanoshima Island have maintained high densities through high ...

Laser control of molecular rotation: Expanding the utility of an optical centrifuge [PDF]
Since its invention in 1999, optical centrifuge has become a powerful tool for controlling molecular rotation and studying molecular dynamics and molecular properties at extreme levels of rotational excitation. The technique has been applied to a variety of molecular species, from simple linear molecules to symmetric and asymmetric tops, to molecular ...
