Does the Adoption of Improved Cassava Varieties Boost Productivity in Ghana? The Role of Technology, Management, and Structural Gaps

open access: yesWorld Food Policy, Volume 12, Issue 2, November 2026.
ABSTRACT Agricultural development initiatives in sub‐Saharan Africa have emphasized improved crop varieties as a pathway to food security, resilience, and rural poverty reduction. However, empirical evidence often focuses narrowly on plot‐level outcomes and overlooks whole‐farm effects and the substantial heterogeneity in farmers' management practices,

The MexMAGIC population reveals the genetic architecture of traits exhibiting clinal variation in Mexican native maize

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 252, Issue 3, Page 1296-1313, November 2026.
The MexMAGIC population mixes native maize varieties from across Mexico to study functional genetic diversity. Summary Defining the genetic basis of local adaptation is a key goal of evolutionary biology and crop improvement. Theory predicts that when selective pressures follow differences in the environment, a cline will be established.

SGLT2i in heart failure: Cardiorenal mechanisms, clinical evidence and translational perspectives

open access: yesClinical and Translational Discovery, Volume 6, Issue 5, October 2026.
SGLT2 inhibitors improve heart failure outcomes through integrated cardiorenal mechanisms. In the kidney, they reduce glucose and sodium reabsorption, promoting natriuresis, osmotic diuresis and renal protection. In the heart, they enhance myocardial energetics, reduce inflammation, oxidative stress, fibrosis and adverse remodelling, resulting in fewer

Breeding on a Tropical Island Proves More Difficult Than Expected: The Ongoing Breeding Failure of Laysan Albatross on Clarion Island

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
This study establishes essential baseline data on the current status, colony dynamics, and key threats facing the Laysan Albatrosses on Clarion Island and offers critical insights to guide future conservation and management efforts. ABSTRACT In the 1980s, the Laysan Albatross (Phoebastria immutabilis) expanded its breeding range into the eastern ...

Sex‐Biased Interactions Between Spur‐Thighed Tortoises (Testudo graeca) and Hindgut Nematodes

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
Tortoise (Testudo graeca) responses to nematode infestation are clearly sex‐biased, where females seem more resilient to nematode infestation than males. These findings emphasizes the need for sex‐directed conservation approaches in tortoises. ABSTRACT The nature of endosymbiont interactions is driven by different ecological and evolutionary processes.

First Record of Triplet Embryos in Sea Turtles: Evidence of Natural Polyembryony in a Wild Green Turtle (Chelonia mydas) Nest From Guanahacabibes, Cuba

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
A rare case of polyembryonic triplets in a wild green turtle (Chelonia mydas) nest demonstrates how multiple embryos can develop within a single egg under natural conditions. Morphological and embryological evidence, including independent yolk vasculature and marked asymmetry among embryos, support a monozygotic origin and highlight developmental ...

Centro de Estudios Coreanos: Presentación

open access: yes, 2016

Opportunistic Feeding and Parasite Assemblages in Sei Whales (Balaenoptera borealis) From Southern Chile Revealed by DNA Metabarcoding

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
This study represents the first metabarcoding‐based description of prey composition and parasite‐associated taxa in stranded sei whales from southern South America. ABSTRACT Balaenopterid whales are major consumers in pelagic ecosystems and play a fundamental role in marine food webs.
