Effects of different weaning strategies on survival and growth in Chinese longsnout catfish (Leiocassis longirostris Gunther) larvae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The effects of different weaning strategies during the larval rearing of Chinese longsnout catfish were determined in two trials. In the first trial, the effect of abrupt-weaning from live prey (Artemia nauplii) to micro-diet at 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 dph ...

Length–Weight and Length–Length Relationships of 12 Fish Species Caught as Bycatch in the Artisanal Whiteleg Shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) Fishery in the Biosphere Reserve Marismas Nacionales, Nayarit, Mexico

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ichthyology, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Length–weight relationship (LWR) and its parameters can be used for the development of models for the rational exploitation of fishery resources. In this study, we estimated the parameters of the LWRs and length–length relationships (LLRs) of 12 fish species caught incidentally by the artisanal whiteleg shrimp fishery in the Biosphere Reserve Marismas ...

Use of hatchery‐raised fish in validation of daily age estimates for juvenile Common Snook

open access: yesMarine and Coastal Fisheries, Volume 16, Issue 6, December 2024.
Abstract Objective We investigated the validity of daily age estimates for juvenile Common Snook Centropomus undecimalis by using sectioned and sanded sagittal otoliths. Methods Common Snook have a protracted spawning season, which is problematic for validation of daily ages because a hatch date—needed to calculate age—cannot be reasonably assigned ...

Hyperostosis in Fishes: An Update With New Species Records

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 285, Issue 11, November 2024.
Hyperostosis is an enigmatic dimension of diversity in the anatomy of fishes. This excessive overgrowth of bone is natural in origin, occurs almost exclusively in marine fishes, is generally species‐specific, and becomes fully developed only in large individuals. We document hyperostosis in 35 families, 89 genera, and 153 species.

Embryonic and early larval development of Florida pompano, Trachinotus carolinus

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 55, Issue 4, August 2024.
Abstract The Florida pompano, Trachinotus carolinus, is an ideal species for commercial aquaculture because of its rapid growth, tolerance to a range of environmental parameters, and high demand in the seafood market. This study detailed embryonic and early larval development of this species.
