14 pages, 4 figures Cephalopod biology is briefly surveyed in the context of cephalopod culture, considering its promises and limits. The motivations for undertaking culture work vary greatly, both in a basic and applied science perspective. Under most circumstances, the outcome of an experimental culture remains uncertain until a second generation is ...

Stimuli‐Responsive Afterglow from Luminescent Liquid Crystal Elastomers
An active glow luminescent system for encoding, signaling, and tracking in dark environments has been developed by integrating inorganic ultralong afterglow phosphors with adaptive liquid crystal elastomer actuators. Abstract Stimuli‐responsive luminescent polymeric materials which combine afterglow emission with mechanical flexibility and adaptability

Marine mammals are sentinel species for ocean and human health. Multiple anthropogenic and environmental stressors threaten these organisms, particularly China's spotted seals, which have experienced significant decline over the past half‐century. Our review reveals low genetic diversity in Chinese spotted seal populations.

Abstract The biological carbon pump sequesters carbon through passive fluxes of biologically derived carbon, and by active vertical movement of marine organisms. Trophic coupling between pelagic and benthic communities increases the efficiency of the biological carbon pump as less carbon is lost to remineralization.
